Chapter 21

Though I tried, I couldn't get to the hospital till about a week later. My mom grounded me for leaving for the hospital without telling her.

She didn't understand. She didn't care. I begged her to let me go, but my only response from her was; "no phone, no leaving the house unless for school, no tv. Im your mother and you will listen to me." I sighed, knowing that if I snuck out, I would only be grounded more.

The whole week other then school, I locked myself in my room, staring at the wall. I hardly ate or slept.

It was Friday night, the last night of me being grounded. It was painful, sitting in my room knowing that sometime in this week, Carissa could have died but I wouldn't know! Anger was swelled up inside of me.

"Tanner?! Come down! Dinner!" My mom yelled from the bottom of the stairs.

I dragged myself down the stairs, and to the dinner. My sister and mom where already eating without me.
"Im going to the hospital first thing in the morning." I told my mom. "Thought you might want to know before you go grounding me again."

My mom rolled her eyes. "All this? For a silly girl?" She asked, utterly confused. I clenched my jaw.

"Shes not a 'silly' girl mom." I said, firmly.

"Im just saying, how much do you really know this girl?" She states. I stared at her for a moment.

"Enough to know that I love her." Confidence rung through my voice.

Mom laughed. "Love her? Tanner, one life lesson for you, don't just go throwing the word love around carelessly!"

I stood up, furious. "I'm not throwing the word around! I've dated before mom, none of the girls in the past make me feel like she does. I love her!" I paused. "and she could be dead! But I wouldn't know because you locked me up in this prison! She was in a coma mom, a coma! She could be gone! Then what would I do?!" I yelled.

"Find another silly girl to tell 'i love you' to! There are plenty fish in the sea!" She yelled back.

I shook my head. "Not like her there aren't. 'I look at her and, I'm home'" i said, quoting Finding nemo. I headed back to my room without another word.

My door shut with a little slam. I got into bed before my mom could decide to ground me more.

My alarm busted an annoying BEEEEEEP! At 5:00, just like I set it for. Visiting hours started at six. I would be there as early as I could.

I threw on random clothes and scarfed down breakfast, left a quick note for mom and drove to the hospital. Something in my car buzzed.... I looked around until I found my phone on the passenger seat, mom must have put it there.

'Carissa is getting worst I would really appreciate it if you could come visit her?' Her moms text light up on my phone. I stepped on the gas a little, but careful not to go over the speed limit.

I ran into the hospital, a hot mess, and didnt even check with the nurse at the front desk, I just walked into her room.

Her mom sneaked in, or someone let her in. She was sitting by the window, tears in her eyes.

"Could I... have a moment?" I asked her mom. She nodded, and walked out of the room.

I pulled up a chair next to her. I softly took her hand. "Stay with me princess okay? Don't you dare leave me!" I sighed, knowing that I couldn't do anything to help her.

I didn't know anything about comas to be honest. But I have watched tv shows when the heart beeping thing goes fast and doctors rush into the room, trying to safe the patent before they... die.

Thats what happened to Carrissa's beeping thing. I quickly jumped up. "NURSE!" I yelled. "NURSE?!"
