3rd pov of a random soldier

I... realized at my wife's deathbed, holding the hands of the children she left behind,  That God did not exist in this dying world of ours.

"The battle's going to begin soon, so you'd better stop staring at that picture of your wife, yeh ?" A young man who sat next to him asked. "It's not my wife. And it's not a picture either."

"A dried clover, huh ?" The young man remarked at the pendent that held a four leaf clover. "My children gave it to me as a good luck charm before I left. I was told it grew beside their mother's grave," He smiled at the thought of his two innocent children and how they gave it to him.

"Well, aside from the clover, the pendent seems quite expensive. I feel like you could make a good amount by selling it." "No way I'd sell it. It's a memento of my wife, ya know," He replied.

"Hell, even if you don't  sell that pendent of yours, we're  all going to make quite a sum out here," An experienced looking man with a scar bisecting his eyebrow added. "You've all heard just how wealthy this nation of Tempest, is right ?" Another mentioned.

"Rumor has it that the soldiers participating in this raid will be granted status and property there," Another joined in. "Eh ! We will ?!"

"You wish. That's for commanding officers," The man with the scar corrected. "Well, I suppose we'll be getting what's left over. Also have you guys heard, The enemy vanguard is full of hot monster chicks !"

The young man watched the group of older warriors talk amongst their groups with unease. "Damn, doesn't that mean we can relieve  ourselves during the battle ?"

"You'd go well with a Goblin."

"The hell did you say !?"

"Wait, say what you like, but putting your hands on a civilian is still-" The young man began but one of the older warriors interrupted, "They're  not 'People'. Their 'Monsters' remember  ? And the Western Saints Church's doctrine declared that monsters have no rights."

At that they all leered with dark predatory looks on their faces.

Unnerved he hurried away to the older man with the pendent that he had looked at.

"What's wrong with those people ? Don't they have the slightest amount of sympathy  ?" He asked. "They're their nerves for battle. It happens a lot," The widow replied as he focused on his bow.

"What do you mean it.... happens a lot ?"

"This is your first deployment, right ? You don't need to join them, but you should learn to accept it. That's just the way it is...."

If God really existed, why would he let that fodder go unpunished  ? Perhaps it's the fault of the country. The Emperor's speech lacked any sense of justice. Our Archbishop's sermons were lengthy, but void of morality.

Fishing out his wife's pendent he looked at it.

......It's fine. I shall fight not for my Nation or some Diety, But for those I cherish the most. Although I cannot enjoy acts of war like they do. I, too shall fight for victory. If it's to protect my family, I shall bury my head in soil if need be.

I apologize in advance to the citizens of Tempest, But I have my own set of values to maintain.

"Alright," He commented as his bow gave off a satisfying twang. Glancing up he saw something. "A....child ?"

Beams of light descended, the group of men who talked and thought of rape in their minds were pierced and dropped dead.

What's this ? He thought in confusion as beams of light kept on going, just one peirce killed it's victim instantly. "Hey, can you run ?" He rushed to the young man from earlier. "Just get out of here-" He stopped after noticing the slumpted figure was dead, peirced in the very center of his forehead.

"Shit !!" He turned and began to flee.

Fuck, fuck ! What the fuck is this ?! Wait please !

All around him men were struck down in a chaos.

Someone please explain this to me ! Out of nowhere something..... something peirced his chest from behind. Crumbling down, the pendant clattered away, its hatch opened to reveal the four leaf clover inside it.

A silver haired figure, the one from before descended down. Plucking the memento she looked at it.

She's the same age as my daughter. Or perhaps even younger.

"P.....Please ! Spare mine...." He panted.

"Please spare the lives of my children !" He pleaded.

In the face of a being more powerful then I could comprehend, I saw clearly what had been obscured from my vision. And i.....

Confessed my wrongdoings.

"I.....I knew exactly what the incursion was and yet, I participated in it. I was in the wrong ! My children.... They know nothing !

And despite the eerie  quite that cloaked the red stained landscaped land, It was a moment held tense than my bowstring. So perhaps, anything is possible.

"Speak no more."

It was a clear, and gentle voice I heard.

If- a beam of light struck him down.

Upon my dying breath, I would see her figure for the first and final time.

I see... I wish I could have told them.

That God was surprisingly child-like.
