How it Should Be

Alone

Ben's P.O.V.

My mind is a mess. I have been at war with my mother and the resistance for so long. I haven't expressed any emotion other than anger in years. I have Rey sitting on the edge of her bed I'm laying in holding me because I can't stop crying. It's all coming out at once.

"Shh sh shh, Ben it's okay. I'm right here. I'm always going to be right here."

We sat there for I'm not sure how long, but she calmed me down. She sat leaning against the wall at the head of the bed, legs crossed. I was facing away from her and she continued to run her fingers through my hair.

"Do you want me to go get some clothes for you still? Something to change into and you can get a shower maybe?" Rey ask me.

"Sure. You trying to tell me I stink?"

She laughed, "No you don't I just don't want you to have to sleep in the same clothes you've been in all day."

I turn over to face her, "I'll get a shower while you're gone and then you can get one after?"

"Sure, I'll lock the door when I leave and the door to the bathroom should lock too. If that makes you feel more secure."

I look up at her and smile a little, "Yeah it would."

"Okay I'll go now because I'm tired and want to get ready for bed. You go get a shower," Rey tells me and she gets up off the bed, "I'll be back before you get out."

I watch Rey get up and put her shoes back on, and she opens the door and closes it behind her. I hear a click after it closes, "Its locked, Ben." Rey says through the door.

I hear her foot steps trail off as she heads to where ever they keep spare clothes. I head into the bathroom and find towels and soaps to use. The water turns on with the shower head sputtering.

I still can't put all my weight on my right leg so I use the handle on the wall for support as I shower. I try to go fast that way Rey can shower and get ready for bed as soon as she can. She's tired. Today took a mental toll on the both of us.

I get out and dry myself off. I was able to find some shorts to wear because when I got out Rey still wasn't back which isn't like her. She said she would be back before I got out. I sat down on the bed and propped up my leg.

After a few minutes of waiting I began to drift off. What's taking her so long?

Eventually I fell asleep, and I woke up to the door opening abruptly, only it wasn't Rey. It was her friend Finn, and about half the Resistance, blasters drawn.

I stood up from the bed, startled and confused, "What's going on? What are you doing?" I ask.

"With the General gone we have yet to elect a new leader. This was a group decision. If you resist we will not hesitate to shoot or use any measures we see fit to put you under arrest." Finn says to me, holstering his gun and pulling out a pair of handcuffs.

"Wait, no how did you even get in here Rey locked the door?" Finn goes behind me to try and cuff me, and I jerk away, "No! Get off me! I know you don't want me here I just wanted to see my mother before she passed, I'm leaving in the morning. I'm staying in here and I'm not hurting anyone, just leave me alone!"

One of the men by the door to the room, slammed it shut. I held out my hand for Rey's second light saber to come to me. It didn't have time to reach me because Finn kicked me in my injured leg, causing me to fall. They crowded around me, kicking me in my ribs, my head, anything they could reach. I used my arms to protect my head best I could. It wasn't working.

I heard a pounding on the door, "Ben! Are you still in the shower let me in please!"

I cried out to her before someone kicked me in the mouth, and then stomped on my head, my hearing was fading, I started to cough blood.

The door flung open and Rey yelled my name. Everyone around me flew to the ceiling.

I could barely see Rey run up to me, I was seeing black spots. She knelt down next to me and I watched people fall from the ceiling. And the black spots turned into all I was seeing until it was all black.
