14 weeks today I was 14 weeks pregnant . It was the end of the first trimester and the start of the second . Today marked my third exam and from everything I knew today would be the day the gender of the baby could be reveled . Sid had practice but he'd gotten it off for family reasons . I think Mario might have pulled some strings there , but I wasn't complaining . It was a quiet morning since the appointment was at 2 at about one we left the house . On the drive over I spoke . " Are we ready for this Sid ? To know the gender of our baby . Let alone ready to raise him or her ." He gave my hand a gentle squeeze and spoke .
" Claire , Don't worry we are going to be great parents . We raise our little one right no matter the gender. I know your uneasy about this whole parenting thing but so am I . Its a trial and error and we will learn together. "
This is why I loved him he always knew what to say to calm me down reassure me .Soon we arrived at the clinic and went inside . We sat in the waiting room together hand in hand . Soon the nurse called us back and we went through the normal things . Then waiting for the Dr. Soon we were joined by my Dr.
" Claire , and you must be Mr.Crosby .Its a pleasure to Finally meet you . "
" please call me Sid ."
" alright Sid, how have things been Claire . "
" Good nothing to abnormal . There was a little spotting one day but I called the office and June your nurse talked me through it . But nothing abnormal . "
" Good very good . Your eating healthy ."
" Yes, although all I've been craving is pb and j ... The kid is definitely his ."
Both the doctor and Sid laughed . We went over a few more things before the doctor asked me to get up on the exam table.
"Let's just make sure everything is normal and if you and Sid chose I can tell you the gender . "
Sid and I looked at each other and nodded . " Yes we'd like that ." The doctor showed us a few things on the machine like the babies devolving facial features . Then the doctor checked a few other things before Turing her attention to the sex of the baby . Pointing out something that was a bit difficult to make out on the ultra sound she spoke .
" You see that there ." she indicated to a certain spot on the image.
" Yes ."
" Well , that would indicate your going to be having a little boy ."
A boy a smile cracked on my face and I squeezed Sids hand. He'd have his little hockey player after all . I could read his face like the page of a book he was so happy . We both were . The doctor finished up a few more things before the appointment was over . We left after I was scheduled to see her again in 2 weeks . Once we were in the car by ourselves I spoke " a baby boy . You get your hockey player after all Sid . "
He grinned and spoke
" I'm so happy .. I can teach him everything I know about the game . "
" He can follow in his fathers footsteps . We can start looking at names now . We should tell your parents . "
" what about yours ? "
" I was thinking we could tell them at Christmas . "
" or we could tell the whole family at Christmas ."
" yes have a sort of gender reveal party ."
" What about the guys? "
" When's the next team dinner ? "
" this up coming Saturday why? "
" I was thinking we could just tell them then . "
" That sounds good .. how about we go out to dinner tonight and celebrate ."
" I'd like that ."
Saturday soon rolled around and I was standing in front of my closet trying to find something to wear I'd only picked up a few pieces of maternity wear and would need to pick up more since I was starting to show . Worst part of maternity wear worrying about looking frumpy . Only after pondering over what to wear I decide on simple black skirt and blouse . It wasn't to fancy of a team dinner . Sid sometimes brought me along to team dinners so it wouldn't be odd when I came along tonight . After we were both ready we headed off to the dinner .
Dinner was ruing smoothly I was laughing and talking with the guys. Half way through the dinner Sid stood up from his seat and some how manged to get everyone's attention I wasn't sure how he always did that .
" okay everyone I'm not taking your time out of enjoying each others company but I have an announcement well... Claire and I have an announcement. As many of you are aware I wasn't at a practice . I wasn't ill I was with my lovely wife at a prenatal appointment . A while ago We had deiced that we were going to find out the gender of our baby. While at that appointment we did find out the gender . We thought all of you should know to . So I'm proud to announce that Claire and I are having a baby boy . "
A round of cheers broke up and Sid was overwhelmed by the guys coming up and hugging him . I had a few of the guys congratulating me as well . Well looks like my son will be embraced into the organization. The dinner finished up before I knew it and on the way back to the range rover Sid commented
" So I've already had some of the guys suggest names for our son . "
" Oh?"
" Yes Geno thinks we should name him Christoper so when he plays in the league they can call him Chris cross for a nickname ."
I giggled " Now that's silly . We will think about it I have a few names in mind already any way . "
" Same . I know its a bit early but what are you thinking of . "
" Well I like the names Zach, Colter or Landen ."
" Hmmm Colter I'll keep that in mind ."
Colter Crosby does have a ring to it I'll write it down for future consideration . "
We'd find the perfect name for our son .
