It was that time of the year again officially cold and flu season . I was being extra careful this year to not get sick. For the benefit of the baby and all that . It wasn't to hard especially since I lived with with a man who hardly ever got sick himself . But one dreary Tuesday I woke up to a sick husband. He had caught a bug for sure . To spite feeling like crud he was determined to go to practice . " Sidney Crosby you feel like crap and are running a fever you are not going to practice and exposing everyone else to your germs . Back to bed now ."
" But I ... "
" No buts.. Bed now I'll contact the right people . "
He went back to bed mumbling the whole way . I went into the office and quickly looked up Mikes number dialing it on the home phone . Ring.... Ring .. Ring bingo there was the pick up noise
" hello"
" Hello , Mike Its Claire Crosby. I'm just calling to let you know Sid wont be at practice today Hes under the weather and running a fever . So he wont be at practice . " He thanked me for the call and I promised that I'd keep him informed as would Sid when there was a change . After the phone call I went to cheeck on my sick husband bringing a thermometer . " Open"
" Claire "
" No Buts .. I've already Informed Johnston you wont be at practice . " I took his temperature 100.2 "Low grade fever just as I thought you Sidney Crosby have caught a bug . " I'll go get you some medicine and start the hot water start some homemade chicken soup we will get you fixed up in no time you ll be ready for Thursdays game against New jersey. " I brought Sid some mediance ." Take these and try to get some sleep I'll come check on you in a little while . " I kissed his forehead as I was leaving the room I heard him say
" I love you ."
" I know ."
I went downstairs to start the broth for the soup .I Checked on Sid a couple times before Lunch . Just as I was finishing up the soup the phone rang I answered it
" Hello"
" Hey ."
" Oh hey Vero whats up ."
" Marc said Sid wasn't at practice , what's going on? "
" I made him stay home he's running a fever and I know that the trainers where gonna send him home anyway so I made him stay home . " We chatted for awhile before she said
" And I have some news you should hear ."
" Go on then ."
" Well , I'm happy to tell you that your little one will have a friend very close to their own age . I'm having another baby. "
" Oh My god! Congrats Looks like my little boy might Have a playmate . "
" You never told me your having a boy. "
"We told the guys I'm surprised flower didn't tell you."
" As am I , I'll look into it ."
" Well I should get going this soup for the sick one is almost done talk to you later? Bye."
By lunch time the soup was ready I made a bowl for Sid placed on a tray and carried it upstairs
" How 's my patient I brought you some soup . "
" A little better thanks. "
I placed a hand to his forehead " Feels like your temperature has gone down some that's good . "
Sid ate and as he was finishing I said " So Vero told me her and flower are having another kid . "
" That's cool what is that 3 people we know that are expecting ."
" Yep, must be something in the water " We laughed a little at my joke and I let him get more rest
Under my care he was able to play the next game and assited on the lone goal . I knew how to take care of my man Later that Week I was in the kitchen making a sandwich peanut butter and jelly when Sid came into the room
" ohhh Pb & J my favorite . "
" I know "
He wrapped his arms around my waist as I open the jelly jar he wispers into my ear
" Spread that god damn Jelly on that mother fucking sandwich . "
I raised an eyebrow at him . "What did you say ?"
" Sorry Its something I watched on a stand up once . Kevin Hart I think. "
" I see and you just happened to quote it now ."
" Yep . "
" You are one odd Soul Sid but I love you . "
Thanksgiving came and went and it was now my favorite time of year the holiday season Christmas . Sid and I took the first weekend in December to start decorating that meant the whole house hanging Garland from the stair banister and putting up poinsettias . Making everything for perfect as always we saved the Christmas tree for last . A favourite of ours.
" That's everything I think . "
" Time for the tree . "
" Yep ."
" I'll go turn on the water for hot coca and put on some Christmas music and we will get started ."
" Sounds good . "
I turned on the stereo after putting in a couple of Christmas Cd's then bringing us both a mug of hot coca. We started to decorate the tree in gold and silver and a little accents of Black penguins colors no shame. After we finshed putting the garland on it was time for ornaments as I hung some on the song all I want for Christmas is you came on . I hummed to myself and sung along
" I don't want a lot for Christmas ,there is just one thing I need . And I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree . I just want you for my own more then you could ever know. Make my wish come true baby , all I want for Christmas is you .I don't need to hang my stocking there upon the fire place . Santa Claus wont make me happy, with a toy on Christmas day."
Sid chuckled and wrapped his arms around me .
" You already have me silly . "
" I know . I smiled softly
" I have something special for the tree ."
" Oh really what is it ."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out an ornament it was a little oven and inside was a bun on the back it had the year . I smiled " oh Sid it's cute thank you it will hold a special place on the tree . Let's put it on together "
He nodded we both reached and slipped it on the tree the moment we pulled away I felt a fluttering like sensation in my uterus . I gasped
"What ?"
" The baby.. I think I felt the baby move ."
His face lit up . " Really ?!?"
" Yes , here . " I took his hand and placed it on my belly . " Wait a minute maybe it will happen agian." Come on little one I thought don't let me down . No sooner then theses thoughts have left my mind I felt it again . " Did you feel that ? "
He nodded " Yes I felt something ."
" Our baby Sid " I was grinning like an idiot at this point . This just made the whole thing all the more real . A baby our baby .
