King wipes her cheeks as the bitter wind makes the tears feel like ice. She sits at a viewpoint up the cliffs, on the hood of the truck, looking down at the dark beach. A few bonfires here and there light up patches of the dark sand but apart from that she can't see anything, but she can hear the soothing water crashing to shore and feel the cold wind on her face and in her hair. Her phone died an hour ago, thank god, so she doesn't have to put up with the endless phone calls.

She squints as lights blind her, a car pulling up; its the Merc, and out climbs Bella Swan. "You got them all worried back there."

"Am I supposed to care?" She says, emotionless.

"Maybe, but I don't care if you do or not. I just wanna make sure you're okay." Bella leans on the truck beside where she sits.

King rolls her eyes. "Dandy. My brother called my dead mother a whore and made me feel about this tall in front of people I don't even know." King pinches her fingers together in a small amount.

Bella smiles small. "Yeah... Jake can do that to ya. He is an ass who doesn't know how to keep his thoughts to himself at the right times."

King rolls her eyes. "Billy mentioned you two were friends, of course you'd make excuses for him!"

"I'm not making excuses, what he said is nasty. But Jake is a good guy, he just can't control himself."

"He could at least be a little more understanding, he's lost his mom too." She says.

Bella shrugs. "Jacob was young - he doesn't talk about it much."

"Will you just go away? I don't want to be friends or friendly, I don't want to hear about Jacob. I don't want anything to do with him." She snaps, maybe a little harsher than she intended but she can't be nice about or toward Jacob anymore.

Bella shrugs. "Fair enough. I totally get it. But can I offer some advice?"

King huffs. "What now."

"If you're gonna hide out somewhere? Do it somewhere with warmth and good food. Cmon." Bella smirks and stands.

King hesitates but her rumbling tummy is a dead giveaway. She jumps down and climbs in the truck as Bella instructs her to follow; she follows the flashy car to a diner just outside of town, almost half between the res and Forks.

As she closes her door, Bella heads inside to get a table. Following, King slides into the booth and grabs the menu. "What's good here?"

"Anything. Just don't go for the veggie burgers, nasty." Bella smiles.

"Ew, veggie? No thanks." She laughs a bit and eyes the burgers. The waitress comes over and King looks up. "I'll have the bacon cheese burger, large coke and extra cheesy fries."

The woman looks at Bella who shakes her head. Once she's walked away she looks at King. "What was your mom like?"

King tenses and stays silent for a moment, unsure of how to respond. No ones asked her that... "Um..."

"Okay, easier question. What's her name?"

King smiles. "Carly. Her name was Carly."

"Pretty name." Bella smiles. "What's your full name?"

"Kingsley Paige Braun." She salutes politely. "At your service."

"Where did Paige come from?"

"Wooooow you're so damn nosy." King sips her drink as its set down, sighing. "My aunt - she died before I was born. She was the reason my mom was in Forks and met Billy - made a deal with Paige that'd she'd get out of the house, away from my pa who was a lovely man but very intense. She promised Paige she'd travel and she did - then I came along and ruined that." She shrugs.
