King sits on the bed just staring at the wall, which she's been doing for a while now. The sun has risen and the birds chirp loudly from the trees but she barely notices; she's too busy going over the dream in her mind again. She relives the moment her mom passed every night in her dreams, unable to stop it until she wakes crying. Luckily it wasn't screaming this time - she scared Billy last night with that. Her first night here and she probably made the man think about what he's committed to.
She spent yesterday hidden in her room, too embarrassed to face him. Today, though, she feels like maybe she needs a walk or something, she needs to get out of the house. She finally gets up and changes into some doc martens, blue jeans and a black hoodie, typing her hair again so it's neater.
The moment she opens the door Billy peaks down the hallway. "Good morning." He smiles.
She smiles gently. "Hey dad." She goes over and kisses his cheek, pushing him into the kitchen. "Got the stuff for pancakes? I can make some if you want." She offers as he settles himself at the table with the paper he got from the mail box moments ago.
"Well, sweetheart, that would be lovely. We're going to Charlie's for dinner though, footballs on; his wife is the best cook."
"I still can't believe uncle Charlie got married again." She teases, not noticing the genuine smile on her face as she talks with her dad. She begins to make pancake batter.
"I know - no one could. Good ole Sue for putting up with the oaf." He chuckles.
King giggles. "Cmon, he's charming."
"He's an old man."
"So are you." She giggles, looking over as he gasps. "Love you." She blows a kiss, giggling again.
"Less off the old young lady." He smiles, a little relieved to see she seems okay; he barely slept last night for fear she may wake screaming again. "You wanna do something today?"
"Actually, I was thinking of taking a walk somewhere." She says as she searches for the syrup.
Billy nods to a lower cupboard. "In there. Where abouts? On your own?"
"Yes, I might even jog. Don't think you could keep up, pa." She giggles small.
"Take the truck, I'd feel better. The roads are nicer than some of the trails, I don't want you to get lost." He says gently.
"I wouldn't get-"
"Don't make me remind you of your 12th birthday trip."
King blushes and scowls, dishing him up 2 big pancakes before setting the plate in front of him. "Fine."
Billy chuckles and digs in. "These are delicious sweetheart. Thank you."
She leans down so he can kiss her cheek and smiles, taking his plate away once he's finished. "You're welcome. There's leftovers for your lunch, okay, and I can cook dinner when I get-"
"King, I can cook for myself sweetheart. We're at Charlie's anyway, remember?" Billy chuckles. "Just give me a call or text to let me know where you are, or if you need anything, or when you're coming back."
"I'll let you know I'm breathing too, shall I?" She rolls her eyes. "Bye dad." She calls as she grabs the keys and heads out. As she heads out towards the truck she notices a shed across from the house, the doors slightly open. She watches it as she slowly unlocks the truck; Jacob walks past the doors and she quickly looks away and climbs in the truck, taking a moment to figure it out before she drives away. She's definitely not ready for the Jacob talk yet. Nope.

The scenery around here is amazing, one of the very few plus sides there is. She's parked on a roadside cliff, admiring the vast ocean stretched in front of her, the sun high in the sky for one, only a few dangerous looking clouds creeping in.
