Nyarai's POV

The makeshift exit was mere metres away but they had so many demons on their tail. To Nyarai's horror more started pouring into the hallway from the other end.

Sarika pulled ahead of them and dived into the demons ripping the first to shreds before they even knew it. She turned and growled at the demons coming out the other end. They stopped in their tracks making eye contact. Beyond that chaotic energy radiating from those shattered eyes there was an understanding of what was to be feared.

Nyarai looked back, "Get her out of here, I'll hold them off!"

Naoko nodded and held Alkira tight to herself as she attempted to leap out of the hole they had ripped in the roof. She didn't make it out clearly but hung from the ceiling with an arm and was able to sling Alkira up onto the roof.

Nyarai breathed a sigh of relief as the demons came tumbling forth once again at her.  Her heart raced and her paws clenched firm to the ground, bracing for the impact she made herself as big as she could not let the demons though.  It helped that her cat form was as large as a horse. She breathed in their horrid stench of decay and misery breathed out and they were upon her.

Gnawing and slashing they slammed into her. She roared in pain and bit into one that was latched onto her shoulder. Sinking her fangs into it she thrashed from side to side crushing the demons on the walls of the hallway. Each crunch would make her cringe, the feeling of the snapping bones and oozing blood disgusted her, as to did the blood that filled her mouth.

She turned back still the demon in her mouth to see that Naoko and Alkira had escaped. Tahi leapt out of the hole and onto the roof, landing awkwardly in her new tiger form but she quickly moved out of the way for Cale to leap next.

Suddenly Nyarai was knocked to the side and into the ground, the wind rushed from her lungs as a monstrous demon trampled her.  And it was stacks on as the other demons dived on top of her with their slashing and gnawing at her. They had her pinned, all she could do was roar in pain but it was more of a warbled sound.

Sarika slammed into the giant monster of a demon, a ball of claws and teeth. Her skill was expert as she ducked and weaved past its slashes at her. And launched herself at it's though, forcing her jaw to clamp down.

Nyarai could feel her own blood begin to spill as the demon's ripped at her. She still couldn't find her breath but flailed around trying to avoid them. She wished she could shift back, that maybe her smaller form might help her. But everything was a frenzy she couldn't clear her mind enough to shift as lines of heat were drawn across her body and began to drip down. She shut her eyes tightly, just wanting everything to go away.

Sarika was very out of breath but she forced the massive demon to the ground and growled at the ones swarming Nyarai. They looked up at her as she neared and backed away slowly from Nyarai's bloodied body.

Sarika nosed Nyarai, she opened her eyes realizing the demons had backed off. She slowly stood, Sarika's growl vibrating through her skull. Nyarai took two deep breaths to calm herself down enough to shift back and sling herself onto the cheetah's back.

Sarika didn't waste a moment, she bolted and lept up through the hole with amazing elegance.

Now on the roof together once again the Pride all looked at each other then to Alkira who was tucked tightly on Naoko's back, head pressed into the fluff.

Nyarai's blood dripped down onto Sarika's coat and her heart started to relax and the adrenaline fade so did her vision.

***

Nyarai awoke, safe at flinders street. Staring up at the domed ceiling she couldn't feel any pain. She sat up and noticed a little stiffness in her legs, she had been slumped on the couch and in front of her all eyes were on Alkira. She was circled up in an armchair with a steaming cup of tea in hand. Nyarai didn't think she had been out long. Alkira's eyes sparkled as she saw her friend sit up.

The rest of the pride looked back at Nyarai, she noted Sarika was among them.

"You're awake," Cale said, smiling a little.

"Yeah, I feel fine somehow..." Nyarai trailed off.

"Werecats do heal faster when asleep," Sarika said with a wink.

Nyarai could think of a million questions to ask Sarika, seemingly an expert on werecats. But Naoko interrupted her thoughts, "Alkira was telling us about dust."

Nyarai's brow creased. It seemed Naoko always managed to find a strange thing to say.

But then Alkira fell into a deep monologue about a cloud of bioluminescent dust she had found sprinkling a clearing in the forest. And how she had collected in and sold to what she didn't know were demons.

Nyarai was interested, she really was but her mind kept slipping away to the sister she could never see again.

Meow Myths,

I really hope you've enjoyed the story so far. It's been an experience writing this story without a solid plan in mind. I feel like it turned out reasonably well.

This is the last chapter there will be in a while but not the last chapter ever. I have so many plans for other story arcs, like Garnet who claims Cale is her mate and Zodwa. I just want to take a break from this story as I'm going back to uni.

In the meantime, I'll be doing an edit of Becoming the Cheetah so if you haven't read it go read it!

Becoming the Cheetah is about Victoria, a girl bullied for her purple eyes but has her life completely changed by a bearded man with forest green eyes *wink wink* and a boy named Flame.

Or A Vampire and a Vampire Slayer. A romance that wasn't meant to be.

Thank you so much and until I return,
