My feet pound against the ground, slamming into the wet leaves and twigs in the forest floor. Rain was pelting my face as I dodged trees and hanging branches, the occasional one slapping my face. It was dark, I couldn't see much. The moon acted as my guide so I didn't run face first into a tree.

I knew I just had to get away, they were coming, and they were coming fast. They probably want to kill me.

Rain soaked my clothes and my face, it was freezing out here, I wanted nothing more than to lay down next to a fire with a hot meal and fall asleep. I was so tired, so exhausted, so hungry, but I can't stop now.

My foot gets caught on a tree trunk or something - which was only bound to happen, I can barely see anything. Without thinking, I put my arms out in front of me to try and break my fall before slamming into the mud. My body aches in pain from the collision with the ground and I cough painfully, winded.

I groan as I try to prop myself up on my elbows, the rain starts washing anything off my face as I try to gaze up into the distance. I have to keep going.

My body shakes as I get to my knees, one foot up at a time slowly. It hurts so much. I'm exhausted.
That's when I hear footsteps closing in. Hard, thick footsteps. I knew exactly who they belonged to.

"She's here." I hear one of the soldiers announce, his voice was muffled by his helmet but it still echoed. The lights from their flashlights appear in front of me as I turn my head over my shoulder, spotting several uniforms behind the glare, heading my way.

Shit.

In a panic, I force myself to my feet, stumbling a little when I try to run, only to feel someone tackle me from behind, slamming me back into the ground.

I let out a pained cry, feeling the body climb off of me and hearing them step to my left. My breathing was heavy now, my chest hurt. Everything hurt.

I hear the solider to my left adjusting the rifle in his hands as I attempt to push myself up onto my elbows again.

I can't just give up, they'll kill me.

As soon as I'm nearly at my feet, I feel a boot on my back, shoving me back into my front roughly. I groan in pain and frustration.

"Don't even bother trying, girl." Another soldier says, this one I hear from my right. I push against the ground, trying to get up, but the guys foot wasn't letting up. He only put more pressure on my back. He wasn't even pushing that hard, if I had the energy then I'm sure I'd be able to get him off me. Right now, it felt like a tank was sitting on my back.

I was becoming more exhausted the more I tried, I struggled to breathe at a steady pace.

"Please... Please, just let me go." I beg, shutting my eyes in exhaustion. I can't die like this. I can't. Not after everything.
