「 chapter 6 」
_______________

Im awaken by sunlight shining in my face, my eyes peel open and I put my arm in front of my face.
Sunlight? It was already morning. So much for that nap.
I slide out of bed and shove my gun and switchblade into my jeans and leave my cell, wondering down the hallway unsure of where I'm even going.

"Oh, Ellie!" I stop in my footsteps and back up to see who ever just said my name. Maggie was sitting in a chair beside the bed Hershel was on. I didn't even realise I went past this cell.

"Would you mind watching my daddy? I really need to pee." She stands up and approaches me, smiling a little over the situation.

"Yeah, sure." I nod, rubbing my eyes and walking into the room.
"Thanks, I'll be quick." She gives me another quick smile and rushes down the hallway. I kneel beside the bed and watch Hershel, he was still alive. He had the bandages I got wrapped around his leg, it looked so much cleaner and the bleeding looked like it had finally stopped.

A minute later, I notice Rick standing in the room, I turn my head towards him, waiting to be spoken to.

"Morning." He leans against the frame, crossing his arms against his chest.

"Hey." I smile tiredly.

"You were asleep for a while."

"It was meant to be a nap, but I guess I over slept." I shrug and he nods with a smile.

"Are you taking watch? Where'd Maggie go?"

"She had to go to the bathroom so she asked me to mind her spot while she was gone."

"Okay, do you want me to sit with you?"

"No, it's okay."

"Alright." He nods, waving me goodbye and setting foot down the hallway.

I breathe out loudly and look back to Hershel, I guess I should just watch his chest and make sure he's still breathing.

I lean over and place my arms on the mattress beside him and put my head on it. I simply watch his chest go up and down over and over for the next few minutes.

My eyes start to drift shut, but when I see Hershel's chest freeze, they throw open and I stare for a few seconds.

He's not moving.

I take my hands away from the bed and sit up slowly, scanning his entire body. Nothing was moving.

Has he seriously stopped breathing?
