THE VOID

ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕣𝕥𝕪-𝕥𝕙𝕣𝕖𝕖

- Flashback / 28th December -

((Hero and Josephine quietly sitting in the waiting room, hoping to be called in soon. There's a weird tension in the air, neither of them really wanting to address it))

Josephine: ((plays with the bottom of her top)) "Thanks again for coming" ((she practically whispers))

Hero: ((doesn't know why he feels so awkward)) "I said I would" ((he smiles, checking his watch for the hundredth time))

Josephine: "I know but it means a lot" ((she smiles))

Hero: "I would do it for anyone, it's no biggie" ((he shrugs))

Josephine: ((sits back in her chair)) "Right" ((she sighs, feeling like he only came out of obligation))

Hero: ((begins to impatiently tap his foot, checking his watch again))

Josephine: ((can't take this awkwardness anymore)) "You can go if you want, if you have somewhere to be"

Hero: ((turns to look at her, a little hurt)) "You don't want me here?" ((He asks))

Josephine: "Not if you don't want to be" ((she adds))

Hero: ((is silent for a moment, of course he wants to be there for her)) "If I didn't want to be here I wouldn't be" ((he replies))

Josephine: ((is a little confused, as his words contradict how he's behaving)) "Whatever" ((she mutters under her breath, tired of this back and forth))

Hero: "What?" ((He asks even though he knows exactly what she said. He stares at her waiting for an answer))

Doctor: "Josephine Langford?" ((He asks looking out at the room))

Josephine: "Here" ((she says while standing, she walks picking up her pace but Hero is close behind her))

((Josephine takes a seat on the bed and the doctor asks her some routine questions))

Doctor: "This shouldn't hurt at all" ((he says reassuringly)) "I see your boyfriend is here with you today" ((he adds))

Hero: "I'm just a friend" ((he replies a little to quickly and instantly regrets the way it came across)) "Good friend" ((he adds but that doesn't make it any better))

Josephine: ((laughs a little, right now he doesn't even feel like that))

Doctor: "Try to keep still for me" ((he says smiling))

Hero: ((moves himself a little closer and grabs Josephine's hand in his))

Josephine: ((squeezes his hand a little, just his touch can change her mood towards him))

((After what feels like hours to both Hero and Josephine, the stitches are all removed. The wound area is cleaned and the doctor places an adhesive strip. He informs Josephine that the wound has healed very nicely. He gives her a few tips on what to avoid and gives her a thumbs up for being so brave. Josephine laughs a little and she thanks him))

Hero: "How is it feeling?" ((He asks as they arrive at his car))

Josephine: "It's fine, nothing's changed in the past few seconds since you last asked"
