THE VOID

((A young girl runs around a camp fire, her father sitting on a log watching in awe))

Man: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" ((His voice is deep and it stops the girl in her tracks))

Girl: ((looks over and places her hands on her hips)) "Daddy, you already know I want to be an actress" ((she responds her voice full of conviction))

((Her father smiles before directing his attention to the fire, as she joins him on the log. She reaches out her hands to get warm. He whispers to her "make sure you don't burn yourself" and she nods agreeing. Her eyes move back to the roaring fire))

Josephine: ((begins to cough again as she tries to back away before she is burned again)) "Alice" ((she shouts but her voice is weak)) "Hero, Alex" ((she tries again but her voice continues to give up on her))

Alex: ((his eyes snap open hearing Josephine's voice)) "Josephine" ((he shouts before he is hit with a shock of pain)) "Jo" ((he says again, trying to sit himself up))

Josephine: ((hears Alex's cries and pulls herself up off the ground)) "Alex, where are you?" ((She asks only seeing rubble and flames)) "Alex" ((as she begins to walk in the direction she saw him in before the explosion. She winces as the air hits the burn on her arm, but she takes in that seemingly being her only injury))

Alex: ((sees Josephine walking through the thick black smoke)) "Jo" ((he cries as she helps him up)) "I can't find Alice, she was right there. Where is she? She was right there" ((he asks as he stabilises himself)) "Hero?" ((He quickly asks looking behind her and seeing no one))

Josephine: "He was right with me, but I haven't found him yet" ((she says trying to stay calm)) "Do you have your phone?" ((She asks, she left hers back at the apartment))

Alex: ((pats his body down)) "No, I must of left it in the car" ((he shakes his head and tries to put more weight on his left leg but the pain is too unbearable))

Josephine: "Fuck" ((she shouts looking down at his leg, it's covered in blood and she can almost see bone)) "Here" ((she rips a piece of her shirt off and wraps it around the wound))

Alex: ((flinches as she tightens the cloth)) "We need to find Hero and Alice" ((he says coughing and they both hear a bang from the other side of the building)) "This place won't stand much longer" ((he adds before covering his mouth with his shirt))

Josephine: "I will keep looking, you need to try and find help" ((she suggests and Alex immediately nods a "no")) "You can't exactly stay here with your leg like that" ((she says gritting her teeth to distract from the sting of her burn)) "And you know the area better" ((she adds placing her hands on his shoulders)) "Hero and Alice are going to need real help" ((she coughs chocking a little))

Alex: ((can't focus on anything but the pain)) "Fine" ((he responds reluctantly)) "When you find Hero, tell him I put up a better fight" ((he tries to joke but he doesn't have the energy to laugh))

Josephine: "I will" ((she responds helping him through the room)) "Use that" ((she adds pointing to a plank of wood))

Alex: ((grabs the piece of wood, to help him walk and makes his way to an exit)) "Good luck" ((he shouts back but Josephine is no longer visible))
