"I don't like this, I don't like this at all" Hermione said as they walked into a dim room filled with rubble and broken statues on either side.

"So, you've said, Granger, five times" Draco ground out.

"Where are we?" Blaise asked glancing around trying to see any indication of another light or door or anything really that could help them locate the Stone.

"A graveyard" Harry suggested as he stared at the blasted and piled blocks of stone and dismembered figures.

"This is no graveyard" Ron shook his head as he walked ahead of them the lights flickering on one at a time to reveal something both Elena and Draco were very familiar with.

"It's a chessboard" Draco breathed out sharing a look with Elena whose eyes were just as wide.

"There's the door" Harry pointed out as the six of them cautiously crossed the empty blocks but as soon as they got to the other side the chess pieces swung their swords up in the air making them immediately back up and when they did the pieces went back to normal.

"Now what do we do?" Hermione asked.

"It's obvious, isn't it?" Ron said, "we've got to play our way across the room."

"Alright, now I don't like this" Blaise admitted.

"Ron can guide us" Hermione suggested, "I've seen him and Harry play he knows wizarding chess well" she assured Elena.

"Draco can help" Elena nodded.

"I can?" Draco scoffed.

"Yes, you can, you and your dad play it all the time and you always win, you know that," Elena said with a comforting smile.

"Alright, Hermione you take the Queen's corner and Harry you take the Bishop's end" Ron ordered making the Gryffindor's nod.

"Blaise, you're the King's corner, 'Lena you're the Bishop's corner with Potter and as for me and Weasley..." Draco glanced over at Ron who only nodded helplessly, "we'll be the knights."

"What happens now?" Hermione asked as soon as they were in their positions.

"Well, white goes first," Ron said nervously swallowing as he glanced around the board.

"And then we play" Draco and Ron announced.

"Uh, Draco do you think this is going to be exactly like real wizard chess?" Elena questioned remembering how brutal he and Lucius would play against each other just to win.

"Well, I, uh..." Draco stammered his stomach flipping at the realization.

"You there D5!" Ron called out testing the theory on one of the bishops they all watched intently as the chess piece swept across the floor before stopping and grabbing for its sword and before they knew it the other bishop had been decapitated and was flying across the room.

"Yes, Elena I think this is going to be exactly like real wizard chess" Draco gulped as everyone stared wide-eyed and in fear at the game before them.

"No, no, Draco?" Elena stared at the board once all the moves that could have been made were made leaving them with only two moves left.

"What?" Blaise asked in worry.

"You saw it coming 'Lena we both did" Draco stated looking over his game choices, "once Weasley and I make our move Potter can checkmate" he sighed from his place on the knight statue.

"What, Ron, NO!" Harry yelled viciously shaking his head.

"It's the only way, Harry" Ron agreed.

"What, what is it?" Hermione questioned not liking not knowing what was going to happen to her friends.

"Elena?" Blaise asked.

"They're going to sacrifice themselves so we can win" Elena explained her eyes darting helplessly around the room for another solution but there wasn't any.

"No, you can't!" Hermione screamed.

"There has to be another way" Blaise yelled.

"Do you two want to stop Sn-whoever from getting that Stone or not?" Ron exclaimed.

"Elena, come on you know it's the only way making sacrifices, right?" Draco nodded at her reassuringly.

"Elena, Harry it's you two who have to go on I just know it, not me, not Hermione, not Blaise, not Malfoy, you two" Ron pointed out.

Harry and Elena shared a quick look before stiffly nodding in agreement making Blaise and Hermione's eyes go wide in complete and utter fear for their friends' lives.

"Alright, Weasley" Draco sighed his hands shaking in anticipation.

"Alright, Malfoy" Ron nodded gripping his horse's steel reins tight.

"Knight to H3!" Draco commanded. Ron and Draco's knights slid towards each other before rearing up and smashing into one another violently making both boys go flying as the rubble erupted knocking Draco and Ron completely unconscious next to each other.

"DRACO?!" Elena screamed.

"RON!" Harry yelled.

Both Blaise and Hermione stepped out of their positions to go and check on their friends before Harry and Elena stopped them making the two immediately jump back in place.

"Don't forget-"

"We're still playing" Elena warned them cutting her brother off, "whether we like it or not" she muttered angrily, "Harry checkmate," Elena said.

Harry nodded as he walked over to the Queen before nervously glancing up at the chess piece, "CHECKMATE!" he announced letting the Queen instantly drop her sword ending the barbaric game.

Elena and Blaise immediately dropped to their knees by Draco's side while Harry and Hermione did the same with Ron.

"Look after him, promise me Blaise" Elena stared at her friend.

"With my life, 'Lena" Blaise promised.

"Watch Ron, will you?" Harry asked Hermione who nodded, "and then go to the owlery send a message to Dumbledore, they're right we have to go on" Harry sighed.

"You'll be okay Elena" Blaise reassured pulling the redhead's attention away from her brother, "you're a great witch you really are."

"Not as good as you" Elena softly chuckled.

"Books and know-it-allness" Blaise laughed, "there are more important things, "bravery, cunningness, ambitions, friendship, and family" he listed off making Elena smile, "and Elena just be careful if this is Voldemort he'll have no mercy on you or Potter" he warned her.

"I know which is why I'll have no mercy on him" Elena nodded, "I'm a Slytherin and a Snape after all," she said making Blaise half-heartedly laugh, "and if you see my dad tell him..." Elena sighed as she stood back up, "tell him the truth" she said making Blaise nod with a small smile on his face before she followed Harry down into the last room.

"Ready?" Harry asked as he and Elena pushed the golden doors open to reveal a flight of stone stairs leading down into a completely different chamber.

"As I'll ever be" Elena sighed before glancing up at her brother, "you?"

"No, not really" Harry admitted.
