Suddenly jumping awake from her sleep she sat up, however her slightly panicked state caused the tall girl to hit her head on the top bunk with a loud clang. "Shit!" She exclaimed as she lay back down and held her head. Staying very still for a few moments the pain eventually subsided. "Hey, you ok in there?" A voice called from the other side and of the door.
"Yeah, just hit my head." She replied
There was a brief silence whilst Sophie looked out of the window into the sunless sky.
"You really ok or are you saying that?" The voice said
Sophie sighed, in truth she was really not ok, everything was a mess, every time she closed her eyes she was back in that room, clutching onto the lifeless body of her brother.
"If we're going to talk, you might as well come in." Sophie said with a frustrated tone. The door opened slowly and a familiar figure stepped into the dark room. In his hand a lit candle that he placed on the dresser before sitting down in the opposite bed.
"Hi, sorry I probably should know your name but I don't think we have formally met." She said sitting up to face him. The man chuckled slightly
"You lived in my group and you didn't know my name" he said, Sophie looked at the man and shrugged.
"I'm Harry."
"Sophie" she replied
She took a moment to get a closer look at his face, his remaining eye looked tired and the small patch that covered the other caused the young man to look much more drained.
"Do you need anything, you haven't moved in a while, I started to think you weren't gonna move at all." He said
"I could do with some water." She said through a scratchy throat.
"Yeah but I left it outside, come with?"
Sophie stood up slowly, the fatigue in her body slowly beginning to rise.Stepping out into the cold early morning air a shiver ran down the already cold redhead's spine. "Don't like the cold?" Noted Harry as she visibly shivered. She shrugged and continued to follow the one eyed man towards the table that sat near the admin building. Harry sat down and grabbed the container sitting on the table and opened it. "Come on, sit." He said as he took a drink from the container. Sophie sat down and looked down at the floor, "Why are you still awake, shouldn't you be resting?" Harry chuckled and turned to face her, "Same reason you followed me out here... you miss someone." Sophie looked up and met him at eye level, her eyes began to fill with tears, "He was so innocent..." she said "He was too good for this world." They sat in silence for a moment. Sophie, who was on the verge of crying, stood up and began to walk away. "It gets better with time, here take this." He said as he screwed the cap back on the canister and tossed it towards her. The redhead opened the container and took a swig of the liquid inside, upon the liquid making contact with the inside of her mouth she immediately spat out the strange liquid. "What is that?" She said in a confusion. "Vodka, found some under a floorboard." He chuckled. Sophie looked at the container and then back at the man. "I'm only joking, I left my water on your desk." He said as she stood up and walked past her back towards the dormitory. Sophie stood outside for a moment, contemplating what to do next, memories from her many years at the school prior to the events of the Delta flooded back into her mind, the times she would spend with her brother drawing or making things. She slowly unscrewed the cap on the container and stood still for a moment looking at the liquid inside. With a quick movement she placed the canister to her mouth and tilted her head back until the liquid filled her mouth, she waited a moment for the harsh liquid to relax in her mouth before she swallowed, the clear liquid heating her innards. "People actually drink this?" She thought to herself as she exhaled dryly out of her mouth. Replacing the lid on the liquid and placing it back on the table Sophie walked solemnly towards the graveyard.
Approaching the first grave Sophie read off the name 'Marlon' The redhead sighed, "All the problems you caused, just because you were too scared." She said to the grave. "Maybe, Tenn and Minnie would still be alive."
Looking to the side of the mound she saw the other, 'Brody' she looked over the grave and reminisced about the good times she would share with the auburn haired teen. "I'm sorry this happened to you Brody, you were one of my best friends, I hope it's beautiful up there."
