*Many Years Earlier*

"Look at him..." She said to her husband, turning her gaze to her older son. "You're a big brother now..."

"Talia..." Gaster held onto her hands, colored tears streaming down the sides of his face.

She lifted her hands out of his grasp to cup the side of his cheek. Sans was curled up into her side, grasping tightly to the hospital fabric that laid on top of her. The child that laid in the cradle beside them had finally stopped crying.

Alphys walked into the room with the last living skeleton family. Many of the skeletons had died in the war, being called demons because of their human-like appearance, and the fact that they looked like rizen human dead.

"Doctor Gaster.. Sir? I could try again with the determination." Alphys suggested, causing Gaster to open his eye sockets wide. "We haven't tried it on a skeleton before, and maybe because you have the most human like appearances-"

"You're not touching my wife with that." He said, eyes beginning to flare.

Sans' head shot up, glaring at his father. How could he be so selfish?! This could be a way to save his mother, and what was his father doing? Ignoring the possibility of saving her life.

"just do it, aphys." Sans told her, voice stern as his left eye had suddenly started glowing blue. "if you think it will save her."

Talia lifted he had onto the back of her son's head, causing him to look down into her lightly smiling face. She shook her head gently and pulled him close to her to try and weakly hug her. Gaster sat there, telling Alphys to ignore his son and telling her to leave them be with their loss.

...

The following day, Papyrus was upstairs in his crib within the brothers shared room. Gaster was down to the right of the hall, having the room farthest away from the stairs. A fire-like glow underneath Gaster's door

Sans had been taking care of his baby brother since they had come home. So, Sans was asleep with his arms tucked around the top of the wooden cradle that he had been rocking the night before.

Gaster slowly opened up the door to the brothers bedroom, syringe in hand. With his other, he used his magic to carfully lift up Sans from the unnatural sleeping position and place him on his bed.

"I'm sorry for this... but you'll understand one day..." Gaster said, lifting up the young skeletons shirt and inserting the needle of the syringe into soul.

Sans grunted and shut his eye sockets harder. Gaster quickly pulled the syringe out and walked out the door to go to his own room. When he was inside, he grabbed another needle and began to inject his own soul with the same substance.

"G-guh" Gaster grunted, as he could feel the memories of his wife melt away.

There was something about this place that Fran could faintly recognize, but she couldn't quite remember. The place was pitch black, with the exception of three buttons, one of which was just out of reach.

"Hello?!" She called out in a panic.

Fran could hear talking all around her, but it was faint, like text on a screen. She tried to get someone's attention, tried to get someone to hear her call.

But nobody came...

She stood staring at the two buttons that she could reach, reading them in her head. One said 'Reset' and the other said 'Erase'. The one that was just out of reach read, 'Continue'.
