Lovers (A Newtina Fanfic)

Part 17

The pain stopped. As if it had been switched off, like a streetlight in the morning. Tina doubled over, gasping, too in shock to see what was happening above her. Suddenly there were two bursts of light, and Renata was tugging at her arm and motioning for her to get up. Renata vanished the bonds tying her up. Although all her body wanted to do was stay lying down, recuperating, her mind knew she had to go, so she mustered all the force she could and stumbled to her feet. She wondered for a second why Grindelwald or Vinda weren't doing anything to stop them, but then she saw the two dark wizards -she almost laughed- splayed on the floor, unmoving, a shocked expression on both of their faces.

And then they ran out of the room as fast as they could, Tina summoning as much strength as she could to keep up with Renata's long strides.

Once they were safely away from Grindelwald, Renata ducked into an empty room, pulling Tina in with her.

"The stunning spell will wear off in about three and a half hours. We need to get your wand and get the hell out of here," Renata said urgently.

"No...no, we need Credence. How could I have been so stupid? We should have planned for that!" Tina said, half-talking to herself.

Renata immediately put her hand on Tina's shoulders and looked her in the eyes, soothing the troubled auror. "We thought we had time, but we didn't. It's not your fault."

"Yes, but we still need to get him. And my wand. But he's more important. three and a half hours is enough," Tina said. "It's enough, right?" she asked, a hint of desperation peeking through.

"Yes, Tina. It's enough. But we should move quickly. And we have to stay out of the way of the other acolytes. They're most likely all in their quarters. Let's get your wand first," Renata said.

Tina raised one arm into the air, displaying the silver Admonitor cuff on her wrist."But I still have this on, and we need Grindelwald to get it off."

"We might be able to crush it. It'd give off a signal if we did it, but it doesn't change the situation. What about your wrist?"

"It's our only shot for getting it off, my wrist doesn't matter."

"Well then, we'll need something heavy."

"A rock?"

Renata conjured a heavy-looking, smooth rock in response. "Are you sure there's no other way?"

Tina picked up the rock, testing its weight -it was heavy-, and then handed it to Renata. "Pretty sure."

"Okay, then," Renata said. Tina placed her forearm on the nearest table, and Renata readied herself. Three, two, one, they mouthed, smash. A spiking pain jolted Tina's senses, followed by a throbbing one. Tina had instinctively closed her eyes, but when she opened them, the Admonitor was lying on the table, smashed into pieces.

Tina breathed a sigh of relief, which was an odd pairing with her injured wrist. "Can you fix my wrist?"

"Of course," Renata replied. She placed the tip of her wand on Tina's wrist, and a soothing golden light seeped into her wrist, mending what needed to be mended. It still hurt a little, barely, Tina thought, but not as much as the pain she had experienced earlier. She doubted anything would be worse than what she had experienced earlier.

But...there was no time to think about anything other than the task at hand. Already, Renata was tugging on Tina's arm, so they could head in the direction of Grindelwald's office.

As the two were walking, Renata gave Tina as much information about Credence as she knew. "He stays in his room almost all the time, except for when Grindelwald invites him out. I think he practices spells because numerous beginner spell books are missing from the library. You most likely know this already, but he's blasted holes in the walls and caused an avalanche. No one bothers him, because his door is always locked, and none of them wants to accidentally be blown to pieces. I really hope you know how to calm him because I don't want to know what happens when he's angry."
