"Planning?" Tina asked, unable to mask the surprise in her voice.
"Yes, planning. We've got to get you out of here," Miss Steele said. As if it wasn't the most traitorous thing she could have said.
"Wait, what?" Tina was beyond perplexed. Why would an acolyte want to free her? Why would an acolyte say that?
"You know exactly what I said. But why, I know you don't."
"Yes...?"
"I know you won't tell anyone. In the time I got to know your sister I determined that both you and your sister were trustworthy. And both of us suspected each other were spies, and we were both right."
"You're a spy? Who are you working for?"
"No one officially, but I report to the Spanish Ministry of Magic unofficially. There's not much to report, unfortunately. I'm important, but not really. I came when Queenie did, but she rose in the ranks faster than I did because she's a legilimens. I think they chose me because I'm good with transfiguration, but I haven't gotten any big assignments yet. I mostly stay here, filing. Sometimes I go to rallies."
"So you're trying to rise in the ranks so they can give you information which you can attempt to send back to the Spanish Ministry of Magic."
"Yes. It'll be hard to send information because all postage is monitored. Grindelwald is extremely paranoid, unfortunately."
"I might be able to help with that. I have this connection with my sister, we can project our thoughts to each other. I think because we're siblings, and it's very useful. Maybe if we can get her in contact with the Spanish Ministry, I could send over information which she can pass on."
"That...that might work."
"Right. Good. Does Grindelwald eat breakfast here?"
"No, he takes his breakfast in his quarters. But he will definitely have supper with you."
Tina groaned. "Lovely. One question, do you have any ideas for hiding information? Information in my mind, so Grindelwald can't find it. And it has to resist veritaserum."
"Um...have you thought about walls? Mental ones?"
"Have 'em up right now."
"Just walls?"
"Strong ones, though."
"I don't know if this is helpful, but try to make a fortress. Like walls within walls within walls."
"That could work...do you have a library?"
"A huge one."
"History books?"
"Practically every single one in existence."
"After breakfast?"
"Sure, if they let you come with me. Why?"
"Maybe we can find something that'll be useful."
"Good idea." Tina smiled. Planning, the back and forth talk, it felt good. Like at the Magical Congress, when there were more women to talk to, when there were more people who respected her, -not that people didn't respect her at the British Ministry- it felt comfortable. Normally, she wouldn't have trusted Miss Steele, but she trusted Queenie and she sensed Miss Steele wasn't lying when she was talking about herself. It was just her instinct and her instinct was mostly reliable.
"Now what?" Tina asked.
"I assume you don't have your wand?"
"I don't. And I have a feeling it won't be as easy to get as the aurors' wands. I have a feeling that it was easy on purpose."
