“And you can choke on your misery.” I sang, finishing our 4th song we were playing, Therapy. The student screamed and hollered like they had the past 3 songs, and I really understood the support I was getting from these guys.

While the students were screaming, Matt came through my earpiece. “Okay, it’s time for Alex’s song. Go ahead and introduce it Leila.” He told me.

I almost nodded, but I knew people would look at me odd, so I just went on with the introduction.

“Okay guys, we’ve got a little surprise for you.” I said, sitting down on the stool behind me that I hadn’t used yet.

“Is the surprise cupcakes, because I’m really hungry.” Jack said rubbing his stomach. Everyone laughed, including me.

“Sorry Jack, I forgot the cupcakes at home.” I said, rolling my eyes. I never even bought cupcakes.

“Damn. I mean dang! I said dang!” Jack said, covering his hand with his mouth. We all laughed again.

“Anyway, so if you haven’t noticed, there is someone missing from All Time Low right now.” I said, adjusting my microphone. “Alex Gaskarth is the lead singer for All Time Low, and right now, he is somewhere in Illinois. Him and the rest of the crew are taking the tour bus to Maryland while we are here, which means Alex can’t be here to perform for you guys; sort of.” I said.

“Matt Flyzik, being the smart guy he is, managed to hook up Skype to that big screen behind me, and we are going to Skype Alex in, and he is going to perform a song for you guys. Which song it is, we all have no clue.” I told them.

“Matt, are you ready?” I asked him through microphone.

“We’re all set.” Matt replied back, using the microphone that had just been given to him.

“Okay, so without further or do, here’s Alex Gaskarth.” I said, and me, Zack, Rian, and Jack all stood up, making our way over to the bleachers that were unoccupied on the side of the gym. Just as we were sitting down, Alex appeared on screen, and he looked like he hadn’t gotten any sleep in days. Not any of the students would notice that, but I know that Rian, Jack, and Zack noticed, because they all gave me questioning looks. When you live on a bus with someone long enough, you can tell even the slightest changes in people.

“Well hey there Utah!” Alex said into the video camera, and he received 300 hello’s back.

“Hey guys.” He said, looking over at where we were. I forgot that they were setting up a camera in front of us, so he had a screen up looking at us too.

“Hey Alex.” We all said.

“So, you guys are probably wondering what I’m going to perform for you guys.” He said, referring to everybody, and a lot of people nodded.

“Well, before I tell you, I’m going to tell you guys a little story.” He told us.

“Yes! Story time!” Jack yelled, and Alex laughed. “Yea Jack, story time.”

“So the song I’m going to sing means a lot to me. Actually, it means more than a lot to me; it means pretty much everything to me; for multiple reasons. Not only has this song gotten me through a he.ll of a lot of stuff, but it’s gotten somebody else through a hell of a lot of stuff. Am I allowed to say hell?” He asked, and everyone laughed, making him crack one of his signature grins. His story was really beginning to make me wonder which song he was going to choose, and where he was going with this story of his.

“So when I was getting ready to choose a song, Matt Flyzik over there emailed me a list of songs that Zack, Rian, Jack, and Leila weren’t doing, and one song on the list caught my eye, because I thought for sure that they were going to sing this.” He said, and I still didn’t know where he was going with this.
