(Leila’s POV)

“Zack. I-um-hi.” I stuttered. Why was he of all people calling me?

“Look, I just called to- I mean I don’t know if- you know what never mind.” He said, and the phone went silent.

I wrinkled my eyebrows. Great conversation that was.

I sighed and got out of bed, stretching as I walked to my closet. I walked in and pulled out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, slipping out of my sweats and into those before pulling on a North Face Hoodie.

I tossed my clothes in the hamper and walked down to the kitchen to find a note from Mason.

‘Lei,

You probably don’t even remember falling asleep last night, or me carrying you to bed, but that’s what happened. My flight left for Paris this morning at 7, so I’m not here. Sorry. Mom and Dad are in Costa Rica, so they aren’t home either. Another sorry for that. You know all the bank account information if you need money. No wild parties while I’m gone.

Actually, who gives a damn, party it up! If I were there, I would be joining right in, so it’s not like I’m going to stop you.

Get some work done on your new record that you’re going to make. RCA sent a package of stuff for you a few days ago that I put down in the studio; you will probably find it useful.

I’ll call you when I can

-Mason’

I sighed and set the letter down. So I was home by myself, was I? Good, that means I can get some work done.

I made my way down to the studio and opened the door. Sure enough, there was an unopened package sitting on the couch, sent from RCA Records.

I tore the package open, revealing 5 blank CD’s, 2 packages of guitar strings, a stack of blank sheet music, 5 notebooks, 4 pens, 8 pencils, a really nice pair of headphones, a new iPod classic, gummy bears, and a letter. I unfolded the letter and read the contents.

‘Dear Leila,

Welcome to RCA! I know this package may seem strange to you, but trust me, there’s a rhyme and reason for it! Anytime we sign new upcoming artists, we send them a ‘care package’ of sorts, complete with everything in it that one might need to write songs, except their imagination and experiences.

You have 5 blank CD’s to fill your completed work with, sheet music to compose, notebooks, pens, and pencils to write down all your ideas, guitar strings for when you have a broken string, headphones and a new iPod to fill with all of your song inspirations, and gummy bears when you need a little sugar pick me up.

We hope that this care package is even a little helpful when writing. We know how stressful it can be to come up with new songs. Below is the number of our studio. When you feel you have something good, send us a CD and give us a ring. We will set up a time for you to do some recording with our producers, and then get started on a tour.

If you want, find a band to accompany you. We didn’t know if you wanted to be a solo artist, or start a band. Either way, this is your decision. Or maybe you just want a guitar player, who knows.

We hope that you find your writings to come easy and from the heart.

Best Regards, And Knowing We Will See You Soon,

-RCA Records’

I set down the letter and smiled. This was all finally becoming real to me. I was actually going to have a record, and a tour, and a band if I chose.
