The sun shone brightly and gave its rays with no partiality. The rays pushed away the darkness and showed a bright life like how Swati's life was going to be bright. The rays reached a window and entered into a room where laughter sounds were ringing like music.
Naina came from behind and hugged Swati. She kissed Swati's cheeks and screamed, "I am so happy for you!" Swati blushed, while Preeti giggled with a blender. The powder which was stuck at the end of the brush fell like Naina's hope in a change of her life.
"Yes. This monkey is getting married!" Said Preeti as she pulled Swati's nose. Swati rubbed her nose in a cute way. Swati looked beautiful, decked up in a yellow saree. While her sister's cum friends were twinning in similar yellow churidars. The makeup process was going on. Naina and Preeti was still not ready for the Haldi ceremony.
Knock. Knock.
The trio glanced at the direction of door.
"I will see." Preeti said started moving with the brush and powder in her hand.
"Wait wait. I will. You continue your process." Naina motioned towards the door. She felt some anticipation while walking. Some kind of excitement.
Knock. Knock.
He knocked again in irritation. How much time! Sameer murmured. It had been many days since he saw Naina. Last time, when Nanu entered the scene, she fled from the place, after giving him a letter about her leave regarding Swati's marriage. After that, he didn't saw her for days. This added to his annoyance.
He gazed at the bowl in his hand. And, a smile crept up his lips. One day, Naina would apply the haldi which was applied to him. His cheeks turned red. And, he was about to knock again when the door flung open.
His hand was in the mid way, flying in the air. Naina was standing there with a horrified face. Her hair was still wet and was not properly combed. This made Sameer remember something.
"Are you about to slap me?..."
"What?" Naina signalled at his hand and he removed it from the mid way.
"For what have you come?"
"Nothing much. I came to keep this in the bride's room, Himawari." He said with a mischievous smile and forwarded the bowl. She bought it subconsciously. Something was running in her mind.
"What did you say?"
"I came to--" Naina cut him.
"No, no. After that."
"Oh....! I said, HIMAWARI!" He exclaimed, grinning.
She stood still. Images of past flashed in her mind. Those days, when everything was good and not disturbed, when everything was perfect. Her eyes were moist. She smiled, remembering their childishness. The smile contained tranquility. It was a pure one. The ache to live the past again was visible in her eyes.
Naina kept the bowl on a nearby table. She cleared her throat and crossed her arms. "Don't call me like that!" She said in a way she used to tell.
Sameer grinned. Those angry eyes, cute red nose and those words in rage, his little cute Naina came before him. "You are Himawari only!" He yelled and ran away. Naina glared and then smiled. The same way he used to run after triggering her anger. She ran after him.
Both faces shone brightly like the sun. There was an absolute happiness in their face as they reminisced their childhood days. Who would not love it?

Naina bit her lower lip, as she carefully applied the mehendi on Preeti's palm.
"Finished!" She shrieked and sighed. Finally, she finished it after half-an-hour.
Preeti examined her hand. "It's not at all nice!" Preeti made a pout, angering Naina.
"Wait. What?! I asked you before every move and you are saying that, it's not nice!"
"Yes. I am saying the truth only."
"If it is so, then wash your hand. I don't care!" Naina crossed her arms and turned the other side.
Preeti hid her smile while Swati chortled and told, "Preeti! Pacify her. It's so beautiful. Don't play with her." Preeti nodded with an understanding smile.
"Is Ms. Naina Agarwal angry?" Preeti questioned as she came before Naina carefully with her hand.
"No. I am so happy." Naina responded sarcastically with a fake smile.
"Then, be like that." Preeti giggled.
Ring. Ring.
"Naina!"
"What?" Naina asked in an irritated tone to Preeti.
"Please keep the phone on my ear."
"Do it yourself!" Naina snapped and drifted her attention to her phone.
"Please na! Please!"
"Okay...." Naina shrugged and kept the phone on her ear.
"Hello!" Was all she heard Preeti saying. After a long gap, "Okay. Sure!" And, then, the line was dead.
"Who?" Naina queried in curiosity. She felt eagerness in knowing the person.
"Uh...Mumma!"
"Oh...okay...."

She washed her hand, lost in thoughts. Or you could say, lost in his thoughts. It was her decision to separate from him or her fate's decision. Everything happened so fast! They were separated so soon. Time felt so fast when they were together. And, so slow when they were not.
Was it all an illusion? Was it all a dream? A nightmare, which would vanish once she got up and she would go to her school as always, with the excitement to see Sameer. No, it was not a nightmare. But a reality, which was no less than a nightmare.
She glanced down. Water was washing away the mehendi. She hoped, like the water something would wash away the reality and would make her live in a dream. A pure dream of her!
Her eyes were covered by mist until it widened, seeing something. S? She brought her hand near to her face and examined clearly. Yes, it was there. Tears trickled down her cheeks. It would be her hallucination. No. It would never happen in her life. Sameer would never be married to Naina. No, it would not. Only, in her dreams, it would.
"Only in my dreams..." She whispered and rubbed the spot. But, it was there, more bright than other designs.
Realisation sunk in and rage took over the sadness. "PREETI!" She screamed and stormed out of the room.
