Jamie's POV
(Two years later)"No, drop it." I commanded. Dexter was biting onto Winstons paw and ran around with him in his mouth, he just wouldn't let him go. I started to scratch behind Dexter's ear and he dropped Winston immediately.
Dexter is our Great Dane, he's a big softy that keeps getting taller. He has a smoky black fur coat and his fur can get everywhere, especially the furniture.
I sighed and picked Winston up, "Finn, could you come here please!" I heard Finn come down the stairs and I met him at the bottom.
"Yeah, Jamie?" Finn asked, he's only 9 and very smart for his age, he'll be turning ten in a few months. Eric and I adopted him and his sibling, Charlie who just turned 15 is and non-binary. Their assigned gender was a girl but they said it didn't take long for them to notice that they were non-binary. They're at school right now, along with Eric, Finn stayed home with me because conferences for his school are today and we already went.
"Could you bring Winston upstairs please?" I asked handing him the bear that was 2x his size.
"Sure." He grabbed Winston around his waist and ran back up the stairs.
"Don't run, you'll trip!" And as I said that he tripped but got back up without a problem.
"I'm fine!" He walked the rest of the way up.
I smiled and checked the time, 3:36. Eric and Charlie should be back soon. I walked over to the front door and grabbed Dexter's leash from the wall mounted coat rack while putting my shoes on.
"Finn, Dexter!" They both came running over, despite me telling Finn to walk up and down the stairs he still runs, "Lets go to the park." Dexter sat in front of me as I put his leash on and Finn put his shoes on.
"Dad, can we get ice cream after?" Finn spoke and I only paused.
Did he just-?
That was the first time he's actually called me dad. I felt tears well up in my eyes and I sniffled as I stood up.
"You alright?" Finn asked as he tugged on my hand.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I smiled at him and unlocked the door, "Come on, we can get any ice cream you want." I started walking and Finn held my hand and Dexter walked on the other side of me.
We walked down the street and as we got closer and closer to the dog park Dexter started walking faster and faster.
We finally made it, we stopped at the entrance so I could take Dexter's leash off. I kneeled down and as I was taking it off I felt Finn tug at the sleeve of my shirt.
"Yeah, Finn?" I turned my head to him and he pointed behind me.
"I think he knows you."
I looked back, stood up and faced him, "Hey, Ryan." I crossed my arms and signaled for Dexter to stay close by tapping the side of my thigh while I held onto Finn's hand.
"Hey, long time no see." He greeted.
"And somehow I still manage to run into you." I said coldly.
"Who's this?" He changed the subject and pointed down at Finn.
"This is Finn, my son." Ryan looked perplexed as he looked at me for any trace of lies, "Not biological." I added and he understood.
"Single?" He asked me and I couldn't believe that he hasn't changed.
He can't be serious. Did he not change at all?
"Married." I said nonchalantly and he looked uncomfortable.
