Dad just invited Brandon to stay for dinner, which I think is a good idea but knowing that my dad asked him puts me on edge.

Dad isn't the most subtle type of person when it comes to me, in general. He likes to show me off and tell the whole world about my achievements. But, he invited Brandon, my ex and current best friend, whom he loves as another son, to dinner. Yeah, I'm not getting any privacy tonight.

Dad's making dinner tonight, chicken and rice with vegetables, Brandon's favorite. Look, Dad was disappointed when me and B broke up but was happy when we remained friends. He really wanted us to be together for a long time. The only reason he's like that is, well, because before B I did get hurt a couple of times and when B came along Dad was so happy. He still thinks that we have a chance together, but we were meant to be just friends.

He respects my relationship privacy and all but I know he just wants me to be happy with someone in the long run, same goes with mom, she just doesn't blurt it out like him.

Once B and I are at the table Mom comes in with our plates, already made, and Dad comes in with his and her plates. I've never told them this before but, they are couple goals.

They've been together since 8th grade, went to the same high school, went to the same college, moved in together, got married, and had me. They've been going strong for a hella of a long time, and yeah they argue but they always keep in mind; it's them against the problem, not each other.

They're happy together and they fit together like a puzzle. It makes me happy to see that they're happy. Except for when they tease me!

We are all seated and eating when Dad decides to break the ice.

"So, do you have a boyfriend, Brandon." Mom snorts and I glare at the both of them.

"Uh, no I don't." He said slightly off guard, but he knows this is normal.

"When did you and Jamie meet up? He misses you, you know?"

B chuckled, "We saw each other last night actually, at the party," he turned to me, "You missed me?" He said with a smug smile. He's always on my dad's side.

"Shut up." I jokingly scoff and roll my eyes.

"We miss having you around, Brandon." My mom stated and I knew it was more for me rather than them.

"Well, I miss being around." He answered with a genuine smile.

"Did you move back here?" Dad questions.

"No I'm only visiting with my family. I'll be leaving in another day or two." He said sadly and the table got quiet.

We really do miss him, he's part of our family and we love him. It's a shame that he has to leave.

"Any idea you'll be back?" Mom asks, her expression changed. She looks disappointed.

"Some time next summer."

I budded in, "That's so long." He turned to me with sad eyes and I reflected them back.

He held his hand in mine, that was on my lap, "It'll be okay. We'll still be in touch, remember?"

"Yes, but it won't be the same." I didn't want it to be that long. I just got him back in my life, I don't want him to leave.

"I know it won't, but it's better than nothing at all." He gave my hand a reassuring squeeze and I could do nothing but trust him.

I nodded and turned back to the table, Dad was smirking while Mom awwed at us silently. I rolled my eyes and blushed lightly.

Thanks for dinner dad.
