Finding the Missing Piece: Book 2

Chapter Forty-Three

Peeta POV-

When I look at Katniss, I can see how much pain she is in.

She can't even stay balanced.

I feel so so bad for her.

Never has she ever been this sick, not even when Prim and I got her sick last Thanksgiving.

I drive back to the pharmacy and find a few natural things that should help reduce her fever while keeping her from being so dizzy.

I buy her some peppermints too.

I go by The Hob and pick up her food and happen to run into Gale on his way out.

"Hey." Gale says and we shake hands.

"Hey, how are you doing?" I ask him.

Gale smiles, "I'm okay. How's everything going?" He asks.

I know what he is talking about.

How Katniss and I are doing.

"Well, pretty good I guess. The source of our issues got arrested." I say, "Katniss and I are fine now." I tell him.

Gale chuckles, "That's great news, not for them but by what you told me, they were a little insane and too obsessed." He says in disbelief.

I shake my head, "They broke into the house Monday night with plans of doing who knows what." I tell him, shaking my head.

Gale's eyes widen, "That is crazy. I bet Katniss was scared to death."

I nod, "We both were. I'm just glad it's taken care of now."

Gale nods his head, "So am I. So this girl was like stalking you from the beginning?"

"Well, since about the second week of school. The guy tried getting Katniss to go out with him the second we got on the campus. He chased her around the parking lot where I was. We hadn't seen him since and had no idea he was behind it all too." I explain the situation.

"That is insane. I feel so bad for you two but I'm glad no one was hurt." He says shaking his head.

I nod in agreement.

Gale smiles, "I know she and I aren't as close as we once were and I know you and I aren't close but I just wanted to tell you thank you."

"For what?" I ask him, confused.

"For taking care of Katniss like you do. After our Dad's died, Finnick and I would try to be there for her as much as possible and when we got girlfriends, I know she felt left out."

"Oh." I say, knowing exactly what he's talking about.

"You came in and swept her off her feet and we both knew we'd never have to worry about her because we know you love her." Gale tells me kindly.

I feel so proud, "Thank you. That means a lot to me, Gale." I say.

He embraces me, "Anytime."

"Well, I better go get her lunch. She is sick right now and I wanna get back to her soon." I say.

"If you guys need anything, let me know. I hope she's well soon." He says, shaking my hand again.

I smile, "I hope so too. I'll see you later." I say waving.

Gale nods and walks out.

I go to the back and order the food.

About ten minutes later, I pay and go back home to Katniss.
