Katniss POV-
"So, where we going?" I ask excitedly, just happy to be out of the house.
Peeta grins as he keeps his eyes on the road, "Katniss, have I ever told you were we were going?"
I chuckle, "Nope." I admit.
Peeta giggles, "Why would I start now?"
"Cause you love me." I tease him.
Peeta grins widely, "True, but I'm still not telling you, so nice try." He says.
I shrug, "Okay." I say simply.
No point in arguing with him.
It looks familiar but as usual, nothing registers for me. Peeta helps me out of the car and we go inside, "Oh, look. The 'just friends' are back." A familiar looking waitress says.
Peeta chuckles and gives me a loving look, "We are. Table for two."
I glance around from Peeta to the waitress and back a few times confused, "What is she talking about?" I whisper to Peeta. He just smiles and shakes his head and we follow the somewhat familiar waitress to our seats.
Peeta pulls the chair out for and helps scoot me in, I smile appreciatively.
Peeta sits down across from me and it feels as if it's déjà vu, like I've experienced this night before.
"Teas for both, no sugar for you?" The waitress says and Peeta nods.
I just stare at him, "Huh?" I ask in confusion.
"You don't remember, do you?" Peeta asks smiling widely.
I shake my head.
"We came here for dinner when we were just friends. That's the waitress you got angry with for assuming we were together."
My eyes grow wide, "Oh no." I say in disbelief, laughing.
Peeta sets his hand on mine, meeting in the middle of the circular table.
I look down and grin widely, "So...should I apologize or definitely not mention we are getting married?" I ask softly.
Peeta gives a breathy laugh, "Tell her that Katniss Everdeen was wrong. That she is sorry she jumped on her all those years ago but now, we are in love and we're getting married." He teases me.
I roll my eyes, "I'll just see if she notices, here put your right hand on the table." I say and he does.
I place my left hand on top of his, right where my rings catch the light.
I want to see if she notices.
Surely, the hand holding will be enough.
"I was really persistent about us not being a couple back then, huh?" I ask guiltily.
Peeta nods, "Yeah."
"I hope I never made you feel like you weren't good enough for me. I liked you but I guess I just couldn't admit it to myself. I wanted us to be together." I tell him truthfully.
Peeta smiles crookedly, "Me too." He smiles just as the waitress comes back.
"What could I get you, Ma'am?" The woman directs me, waiting to take my order.
"Yeah, Katniss. The 'I'm not hungry' excuse doesn't apply tonight." Peeta teases me.
I laugh as I do remember that night very clearly now and obviously, the waitress does too because she laughs at the apparent inside joke.
