The second Hongjoong mentioned Wooyoung being stabbed by the elk because he was pregnant Yunho huffed and rolled his eyes.
He wasn't particularly interested in hearing about the special treatment the omega was going to start receiving now. And although he knew he was being petty, he still couldn't bring himself to forgive the omega for taking Jongho away from him.
Because that's what he believed...
If Jongho had picked San he might have felt differently since San had managed to worm his way into Yunho's heart on their first night together. The other beta had been so kind and understanding when it came to Yunho's feelings on Jongho claiming him first.
But Wooyoung wasn't even from their original pack.
He was an outsider who stole his alpha.
Yunho's eyes narrowed when the order was given for him to hunt with Jongho and Yunho.
Easy. You really need to get past this for the sake of your pack. Hongjoong said through a personal link. You're only hurting yourself more and I know both of them care for you. Look at Mingi and his pack. He still takes time for both Yeosang and I, even though he is mated with Seonghwa. And there's still a chance Jongho will give you the pup you desire so much.
Yunho glanced at where his friend was watching him from Mingi's other side, but he was soon distracted when Mingi gave him a quick lick behind the ear.
Deep down he knew his friend was right. But forgiveness was easier said than done.
Especially when Wooyoung came to stand next to him. I'm excited to get out and stretch my legs. It's been awhile since I've hunted with you. He sounded hopeful and Yunho could tell it was a private link in his attempt to make amends.
Just watch yourself so you don't harm that thing in your stomach and stay out of my way. Yunho growled and shuffled away from him.
Wooyoung dipped his head and went to stand on the other side of Jongho.
Their alpha was too absorbed in talking with Mingi to notice the omega's discomfort, which made Yunho feel a small form of smug pleasure.
The hunt went quickly, and the three of them brought down their elk with ease. But when the chaos started, Yunho had no idea what was happening.
He did his best to stay by Jongho's side, wanting to help protect his alpha, and Jongho made sure to keep Wooyoung in his sights.
San was nowhere to be seen.
The three of them started to look for their other pack member when Jongho let out a loud yelp and stumbled to the side. Wooyoung ran to his side and sniffed at the dart sticking out of his leg. He carefully wrapped his teeth around it and pulled it free.
Whatever was in it worked fast though, because Jongho collapsed on the ground an instant later.
Yunho started to move forward when his leg got caught on something. He howled when he was suddenly flung into the air and trapped by a thick net. His limps were tangled within it, so no matter how much he struggled, he couldn't break free. The net was tight enough that he couldn't turn his head enough to grip the net with his teeth either...
Yunho! Wooyoung called out, running to stand beneath him. He tried jumping up to grab at the net but it was too high for him to reach.
When he landed on the ground, he moved to a different side to get a running start.
That ended up being a mistake because the omega triggered something that had a weighted net falling from the trees, pinning him to the ground.
The cry of pain that came from the omega was enough to send Yunho's heart racing.
Wooyoung!? Hongjoong!? Yunho!? Yeosang's voice reached them.
Yeosang! Wooyoung called out, trying to keep the pain out of his voice. Get out of here they set traps!
Where is Jongho?
He was shot with a tranquilizer dart as well. Yunho replied. Hurry! Me and Wooyoung are stuck in traps!
Is he safe? Do you see Hongjoong!? The panic was evident in Yeosang's voice.
Yunho let out a long whine. He had been hoping Hongjoong was with the others... I don't know where Joong is...
He was about to say more when several branches snapped off to their right.
Yunho turned to look and saw several humans walking forward with guns. They surveyed the area and waved at something behind them.
A truck rolled up with a large cage as the back of it.
Yunho cried out when he saw Hongjoong already lying unconscious in the cage. He had a muzzle around his head and his legs were bound together. There was also a collar around is neck that had a chain going between him and the cage.
"We've got two more over here!" One of the men called out to the truck.
Two? They must not see Jongho. With all the shifting of the traps, Yunho realized the alpha's body was several yards away. The humans had rigged his trap so it was set apart from where it had been set.
"Damn these guys are huge! Have you ever seen wolves this big before?" One asked as it looked up at Yunho. The beta growled in response.
"No, but that's why we got permission to catch them. There have been too many reports of large wolves in the area by local hunters and farmers." Another one responded while loading another tranquilizer dart into his gun.
Yunho... What are they talking about? Wooyoung whimpered. His fear rolled off him as a couple of humans circled him.
"This one's got a pretty brown coat. And the one in the truck is grey. So do you think they are two different breeds?"
"No, because look at this one." The human below Yunho pointed up at him.
"Look at how unique his coloring is with the tan and black. I think we might have stumbled upon a new breed. That would explain the size too."
Try to stay calm. Yunho twisted so he could lock eyes with the omega. And try to act like a normal wolf.
How do I do that? The younger's voice shook as he spoke.
Don't show your eyes for one. But trust your instincts. It's going to be ok. Yunho tried to send his reassurance through the link. He felt Wooyoung's pain in return. This was the most they had spoken in almost two months.
Then they both cried out when they were shot with their own tranquilizer darts and Yunho felt himself slip into unconsciousness.
***
When he came to, the first thing Yunho recognized was the fact that he was alone in a small, metal box. He had been given a muzzle as well and his legs were bound like he had seen with Hongjoong before.
He immediately started rubbing his snout against his legs to try and pull the muzzle off.
Yunho? Hongjoong's voice ran in his ears and his head shot up so fast that it slammed into the ceiling of the crate he was in.
Joong! Are you ok? Where are you? What's going on?
Deep breath. I don't know where we are. But I'm as ok as I can be. These assholes are in for one serious ass whooping once I get out of here. The older responded. Yunho could hear his growl coming from somewhere.
What the hell is going on? Yunho asked again, trying to inch forward to see out the front of his crate. It looked like he was in a large room that housed several crates. Most were empty, but he could barely make out Hongjoong's front paws in one across the room. And on the opposite side of the row, Yunho could see that Wooyoung was still unconscious in his.
I don't know. But they think we are normal wolves, so we definitely need to be careful.
Yunho was silent as worry started to take over. As far as he could tell, they hadn't found where Jongho had been, so he took that as a blessing.
A short time later, a door off to the side opened and several humans entered the room wearing large, white lab coats. One of them was older and had a
clipboard in his hands that he was reading. "These are them?"
"Yes. We found them in the designated area, so we are within our legal rights to pick them up and we have footage to prove it."
"Thank you for taking precautions. It helps our credibility, and with a discovery this big, we need to avoid any form of bad press. Now, let's pick one to look at."
"This one is still out." One of the humans walked over to Wooyoung's cage and pulled him from it by attaching a chain to the collar around his neck.
The omega was completely limp, so it took six men to lift him onto the table in the center of the room.
Yunho let out a warning growl, making a few of the men flinch and move away from his cage.
The oldest man started taking measurements of Wooyoung's body, both for his vitals and physical measurements. "All three are male?" He turned to another man in the room.
"Yes. And this one is the smallest. That one," He jabbed his finger in Yunho's direction, "Is almost twice the size of this one."
"What they hell... How is this even possible? Even this one is almost twice the size of a standard wolf! I think maybe two of our males are close to being this big, but still. We need to pull out all the stops. I want them watched twenty-four hours a day. Once they are fit, we can submit them to our other programs. But for now we need to work on introducing them to the others. Did you get the barrier in place?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Good, if you need to sedate them again, then do it. We will take every precaution necessary until we know we can trust them." The man nodded at the others before leaving the room.
Yunho glanced back at Wooyoung and saw them working to drag him off the table, but then the omega started to stir.
When he opened his eyes and realized where he was, he whimpered and started to pull against the chain, yanking a few men with him.
"Get the tranquilizer ready!" They started shouting.
Wooyoung stay calm and they won't hurt you. Hongjoong whined from his cage and he started pawing at it.
The omega glanced in his direction but did what he said before his head whipped around to looked at the humans.
They approached him slowly. "Alright boy, we are just going to untie your legs.
"Easy." One said, holding his hands up.
Wooyoung's ears fell back and a few of the others laughed. "Oh here we go, Jin the 'wolf whisperer' is at it again." One of them teased.
Yunho let out a low growl when the human approached Wooyoung to let him know that he was being watched.
"I'm not going to hurt him." Jin glanced at him and gave a small smile. Then he turned back to Wooyoung and started to untie his legs. He rubbed the omega where the ropes had been to try and return circulation to his limbs.
A few of the others snickered, but some watched him with impressed expressions.
Jin took the chain and gave it a light tug. Wooyoung's lips curled up to bare his teeth and he pulled back. Then he glanced at Yunho and whined. Yunho... What do we do?
You're my Luna. You decide. Yunho grumbled.
Yunho! Hongjoong snapped, making the younger beta flinch.
But Wooyoung bowed his head. Do as they say then. I'll figure something out... He said quietly and jumped down from the table. With his tail between his legs, he followed Jin and another human from the room.
Yunho huffed and turned his head away. He hadn't fully meant to say that, but he couldn't help but react. As Luna, Wooyoung was supposed to be the strong one. It just went to reinforce he belief that Jongho had made the wrong choice.
How dare you. Hongjoong growled. We are all scared and he is looking for your support, showing that he respects your opinion.
You treat Seonghwa the same way.
Not in situations like this. If he were to ask my opinion in this situation, I would give it to him. We are all allowed to be scared. Now get your fucking act together or we won't get out of here.
Yunho closed his eyes and ground his teeth.
"Alright, let's go."
His cage opened and one man gently pulled on his chain while another one untied his front legs.
After he was on the floor and standing on all four, he could see the humans shuffle away from him and his size. It made him curl his upper lip in a sneer. If he didn't have this muzzle on, he would rip them all apart. He could break their bones right now, but he knew that wouldn't help them.
Hongjoong appeared in front of him as he was being led from the room.
Yunho didn't like it, but he let himself be led like a dog down a long white hallway and through a large door that looked like it needed a code to unlock.
The other side revealed a long fence tunnel. The fence formed an arch over them, so there would be no way to jump out, and the steady hum told Yunho it was electrified.
That led them to an area that made Yunho's heart falter and he paused, planting his feet in the ground.
Stretched out before him was a large open area that had rocks and bushes in random areas. A stream flowed across one corner and emptied into a small pond.
Normally this would look ok, but the fact that two sides of it was concrete walls several meters high, and the other two sides were open and dropped off into a giant pit made him tremble with fear.
The pits were deep enough that he might have been able to jump out of them, but they were lined with concrete as well so there was no foot hold. But really it was more of a trench that acted as a border on two sides.
There was a tall, clear barrier that split the area in half. It was only a couple of meters high, but the top was lined with barbed wire, so jumping it as out of the question.
Pacing on the other side was about twenty wolves. They all had curious looks on their faces as they observed the newcomers.
Wooyoung was standing by the pond in the corner, with Hongjoong, and they both still had the muzzles on.
They were staring at the sides with the trenches. Yunho followed their gaze, not paying attention to the fact that the chain was removed and the gate behind him was sealed shut.
He thought the trench itself was bad... But what he saw was much worse.
On the other side of the trench was viewing areas where several human families stood and gawked at them. They waved, pointed, called out, and uttered words of surprise at the three new wolves.
They were trapped in an exhibit at a human zoo.••••••••
