" Coral! I have news. Maxwells old box is for rent! You and I can be neighbors!" I rushed out, neither of us had to be told why there was a box for rent. Maxwell was known for listening to illegal music. It was sadly only a matter of time until this happened. I look at Coral, something's not right.
"Great." she replied,sounding distant. She looks like she might even cry, Coral never cries!
"What's up?" I ask her. She looked at me, as if trying to find how to explain some horrible news to a child. I'm nervous now. She took a deep breath and the words rushed out.
"I lost my job, and since I don't have a job my box will be taken away, and I will have nowhere to go for curfew so by midday the Keepers will be after me and I will get taken away! I will never be able to come back, Oh Kari, what do I do?" she cried out in one breath. I think for a minute.
Then I realized that we were going to be late for school. I told her to meet me here later. She agreed to meet me twenty minutes before curfew. We would buy an early dinner and talk then, not before.
Usually we talk about upcoming tests or 'gossip' about Jezebel Froxanger, the rebel of block 6. Rumor has it they are fighting a civil war right now and Jezebel Froxanger is the one who broadcasts the rebels fighting on our Televisions. She has wavy red hair, and green eyes, and is at least six and a half feet tall. She broadcasts battles all the time, but they are never more than a minute because they are cut off and some announcer says it's all a prank, resume your duty or some stupid thing like that. Most people think the royals would be able to stop world wide broadcasts if they own the world. They think it's all a setup.
Others, like me, think it's real. If the Royals wanted to get a message out they would have a massacre and then leave a message. If that doesn't work, try again.
I was almost late to school, but I got there on time. A boy a year ahead of me was slapped for being late by a few minutes and now he wouldn't get lunch.
Class was boring, like always. We learned about the final war and how it supposedly ended all conflicts because it was all one country. Yeah right, I have some choice words for that speech.
After school I ran to meet Coral. She thought this was all goodbyes but I wasn't having it. As soon as I got there I grabbed her hand and pulled her the entire way to my Container.
