I awoke in a cold sweat. I wiped off my face, and splashed some cold water from the basin onto my face and got dressed. Now I noticed that there was nobody there. That is when I heard it.
"Land ho! LAND HO!"a voice called out loud and clear. I sprang from my bed. There were many people flooding the hallway, pushing their way to get a glimpse of land. The first in months, but this couldn't be Australia already, and that's when I remember its an island. As I reached the deck, warm sunlight shone down on my face. I could see land. It was just a green speck in the distance, with one very, very important detail. It was green. That meant that there was fresh vegetation, and possibly meat!. A seabird called from above. That was a good sign. Now we know there are animals, at least birds. Real fresh meat, not canned, not fish, not jerky. Real meat. I was watching the majestic bird when a small stone hit it, plucking it from the sky and onto another boat. So much for the majestic bird.
It took us only one hour and 20 minutes to find a lagoon for us to dock. There were a few bird calls, but besides that the jungle was quiet. The botanist, hunters, and some random people set out to find food. The rest of us just helped clean and mend the blankets, mattress, pillows, the boxes and other things. There was a clearing right on the beach, before opening into lush jungle. Coral and I were working together to mend torn fishing nets. We finished in around two and a half hours and went exploring the coast.
We walked and talked, when we saw something up ahead. There was definitely a small village clearly from some time ago. We both stopped talking. We walked slowly and carefully. The buildings were black from fire and the ground was covered in ash. The trees surrounding the village were black and grey. The fire was from long ago, that is for certain. We walked through what must have been once a beautiful courtyard, and now was cracked stone with weeds growing out of it. Even the weeds seemed dead or dying. We venture further and found a crater in the ground. In it was a shell of a boom bomb.
The royals used bomb bombs to completely destroy their enemies, because once they hit the ground they bury themselves and then explode into 19 pieces. Then those 19 pieces explode and let loose a knockout gas.
The craters were not that large, about the size of my first room. I was about to go into the nearest crater to see if there was anything in there, when Coral's voice broke the silence.
"Kari, you better see this." called Coral in a worried voice. I rushed over. There was a small child. Maybe 9 or 10 years of age. He was almost as pale as the sand he laid on, but he was alive. He was covered in ash and his breathing was labored, and shaky. His body would shiver with each breath.
