FAIR WARNING

CHAPTER NINE

The fire brigade arrived. Wale was in astonishment. The flames were burning violently

“Alright people, stand back” One fire fighter growled

“My good man, some people are still in there” The store manager stated anxiously

“I doubt that” The fire fighter began “The flames are took extreme now”

“Listen to me…Two men...THEY’RE IN THERE AS WE SPEAK. It’s your job to save them, so please do it before they die”

“They’re dead…” Wale shakily stated “I hate reality, but…my word…I can’t” Wale was emotional as he looked at an angelic Ayanna resting in his arms. The fire fighter took a risk, and bolted into the store. He crashed through the walls and landed hard on the floor. The store was falling down. The fire fighter searched for any human being that could be in the store

Wale fought back tears, as he placed Ayanna in her push chair. Another semi-explosion erupted

“That’s it! Men, put out the fire” One fire fighter ordered, as the power hose blasted into the store. Wale was shaken badly, contemplating how he would tell the others of DeMarion’s death.

Suddenly, a figure appeared

“WHO’S OVER THERE” A lady barked. The fire fighter emerged. Wale looked in amazement. The fire fighter carried both Jamarr and DeMarion and placed them on the floor. Paramedics attended to the young men. Wale, with Ayanna in the push chair, ran towards an unconscious DeMarion, as he was being put on a stretcher. The paramedics ripped DeMarion’s top open and gave him a gas mask, despite him being unconscious

“DEMARION…YO D” Wale barked

“Excuse me, we are trying to get him into the ambulance vehicle, please step aside” The female paramedic stated. Jamarr was loaded on a stretcher, and put inside another ambulance van

“No…I’m his best friend, this is his daughter. What hospital will you be at?”

“We will be at the Fredrick Generous Hospital. Be there within the next half an hour, its vital” The female paramedic stated, as DeMarion was loaded into the ambulance van. Wale looked through DeMarion’s side bag and found DeMarion’s car keys. Wale, with Ayanna in her push chair, made way to the hospital.

10.00. At Fredrick Generous Hospital, nurses were busy attending to other casualties. Wale waited in the waiting area as he played with Ayanna. He looked at her; she was bubbly and oblivious to the fact that her father could be dead or alive. Wale tried to keep it together for Ayanna. Suddenly, Kaya bolted through the door to Wale

“OH WALE...” Kaya wailed. Wale rose to his feet, placed Ayanna on the chair as he hugged a very distressed Kaya

“Hello, my darling” Kaya smiled as Ayanna put out her arms indicating for Kaya to take her. Kaya took her, and wiped a tear from her eye “Was she alright?”

“Yeah she was fine” Wale replied “Thank God she didn’t inhale those toxic fumes. The doctor that’s attending to DeMarion gave me the all clear. I don’t know what we would have done if she died. The nurses haven’t told me anything about DeMarion, and it’s been more than forty minutes” Wale stated

“...How could this happen?” Kaya asked

“I just don’t know. It’s all a bit weird...”

“...You don’t think it’s the supernatural thing, do you?” Kaya inquired

“I hope not” Wale replied “I can’t be certain. Let’s just pray that DeMarion is alright, for the sake of his baby”
