FAIR WARNING

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

“Weren’t that the guy that never EVER talks?” Courtney asked

The whole area was cut off for forensic detectives and police to launch an investigation

“Yeah, but I’m scared I’ll get in trouble. It was my fault” Lil confessed in a remorseful tone

“How is that?” Courtney asked

“Well…you know how my Dad is in the army?” Lil asked

“Yeah…oh wait, don’t tell me…” Courtney replied

“Exactly” Lil began “That was my Dad’s gun. I mean, I don’t know what came over me. I thought you and the girls were avoiding me, I now know I was being stupid, but I’ve never been close to anyone, so you could understand”

“Sure, okay” Courtney agreed “But that was quite a silly thing to think we would avoid you. We’re not like that, we all actually like you”

“Thanks, I just don’t know why I thought of that” Lil began “Sameer, that nice-looking guy; I thought he genuinely liked me when he approached me. It was just a cruel chance to humiliate me in front of his friends”

“Gee, I’m sorry” Courtney replied “I thought you knew Lanelle and I didn’t have classes yesterday. Don’t know about Shay, she was probably skiving”

“I just became angrier at the world than ever before, that I actually turned violent. I felt like committing suicide, but I thought ‘Why am I going to lose?’ I wanted Sameer and all those that tormented me. I just went and got my Dad’s AK-47, rolled into school and I was ready there and then to get even. But I then realised my mistake, and before I could take the gun away, Paul came in. He attacked me. It was like the devil took over him or something, because he looked so damn evil, it was mind blowing. Now, because of me, what…eight or ten people are dead? This will haunt me”

“No, but you are partially to blame” Courtney admitted “But you didn’t kill anyone. You wanted to return the gun and knew it was a mistake. It shouldn’t be on your conscience”

“Thank you” Lil replied “I guess college is cancelled then”

“Guess so” Courtney replied as the girls walked out of the college premises.

The following few days, London was simply crumbling. Everyone was on edge, no one trusted anyone, and people seemed ever so hostile than ever before. Courtney was at Lanelle’s with Wale and DeMarion

“What I don’t understand, is that MARSHAL wants us to change our ways, right?” DeMarion began, before he took a bite out of his chocolate bar

“Yeah” Lanelle replied

“Well, if you ask me…things are getting worse. I can hardly buy Ayanna anything as times are so damn tough. Also, ain’t people just plain angry now?”

“Trust, I’ve noticed that” Wale replied “So how are we supposed to ‘change’ under these conditions?”

“Who knows” Lanelle replied “I’m just tired of this. I want my life the way it was before; I don’t understand why that MARSHAL thing is doing this? If it is doing this, because not everyone is bad”

“That’s true” Courtney replied “I personally don’t think I should change anything. So if we want life to crumble, we shouldn’t do anything. But I for one will not let that thing win”

“My girl speaks truth” DeMarion replied “I agree”

“Same here” Wale grinned “We can’t flop now”
