CHAPTER FIFTEEN
“Oh my days…this just cannot be happening” Shay sighed in denial. The weather was cold in Peterborough and it was almost pitch black with freezing winds surrounding the atmosphere. The group continued to look at their surroundings
“I mean…this is so bad. We have no phones…no money…”
“SHAY MAN…Rub it in, why don’t you?” Paul barked “Wait… Where are we again?”
“Peterborough” Lil replied
“Hold on…Peterborough?” Dalmar asked
“Did she stutter?” Shay barked
“Oh…” Dalmar began “Oh my word, I almost forgot. I’ve got a cousin here”
“You total idiot” Shay snapped “We’ve been asking for almost half an hour, and now you clock on that you’ve got a cousin here? Gees Louise and you’re supposed to be some genius?” [CLOCK: realised]
“Shay… can I ask you something, on the level?” Lanelle asked [ON THE LEVEL: Seriously]
“Yeah…?” Shay replied
“Why the hell are you here anyway? You clearly don’t like being with us and all you do is complain and chat unnecessarily”
“Who said I didn’t like being here?” Shay replied “It’s decent, still. I’d rather be here than six feet under”
“Whatever. Dalmar, so how we gonna get to your cousin’s place?” DeMarion yawned
“Well it shouldn’t be that far from here. I haven’t been here for a while, so I’ll be a bit rusty. But we will get there, don’t fret” Dalmar assured
The group walked for an hour. Paul wrapped his arm around Lanelle, who smiled, as she held his hand
“Why do you always have to act like some gigolo?” she asked
“Do I?” Paul replied
“Don’t play ‘the innocent one’ Paul-y” Lanelle grinned
“I don’t even know…serious, do I?”
“Allow it Paul, I didn’t stutter” Lanelle smiled. Paul grinned back
“Do you like me?” Paul asked. Lanelle giggled
“You would like to think so, wouldn’t you?”
“You’re just so damn beautiful, you don’t even know” Paul grinned
“Easy, tiger” Lanelle cooed “Let’s focus on how we’re getting back to London”
“Alright” Paul smiled as they continued to walk
“Wow, I’m tired” Lil replied. She saw DeMarion with a stern look on his face “Dee…what’s up?”
“Huh…?” DeMarion snapped out of his phase “Nothing”
“Come on…tell me, please?” Lil smiled
“It’s…it’s my daughter” DeMarion declared “My daughter’s mother…I didn’t see my daughter for almost two weeks, and she threatened me saying if I leave for long like that, I risk losing her. I just upped and left it here, and I can’t call and I’m so…”
Lil saw DeMarion clench his fists in anger and frustration
“It’s not your fault” Lil replied “If Kaya is a good woman, she would understand”
“But what if the police go for her?” DeMarion replied “I could kill Kofi in an instant”
“Don’t even waste time thinking about him” Lil replied “We’ve got to focus now…there’s no turning back. You will see your daughter again, I’m positive”
