Maya Hart was in History class sitting in the front with Riley. Mr.Matthews, their History teacher had just walked in with his briefcase and his vintage black suit. He smacked his briefcase on his desk and shouted...

"Affliction." "Who knows what affliction means?"

No one raised their hand. It was dull until Farkle Minus, another friend to Riley and Maya, raised his hand.

"Yes Farkle!" Mr.Matthews said.

"Affliction is another word for heartbreak. In the story that Cassandra Haven one of the most famous authors wrote, she wrote about a heartbroken woman when her husband left her for another woman. A woman who had all of her trust. Her best friend. Affliction is a strong word and who ever witnesses it shall understand the world in a clearer way.-Cassandra Haven."

Everyone stared at Farkle.

"Correct! Today we are gonna learn about affliction. I ordered the class "A Woman's Affliction" by Cassandra Haven and you all will read it and give me a visual report. I will assign you partners." The class moaned. But Cory didn't care.

"Okay, Riley with Luc-. Nope! Gotcha, Maya with Lucas, Farkle with Riley," and Cory went on with the rest of the class.

Maya turned around to Lucas and said: "So cowboy do you want to go to my house or do you want to go to yours?"

"Doesn't matter to me as long as my horse fits in your drive way!"

"So my house?"

Lucas pretended he had a hat and bowed it to her. She smiled and turned around.

Riley started looking at Lucas and Maya and how much they were talking. She was pretty upset she didn't get partnered up with him.

"So Riley I thought we should go to my house. I have a lot of stuff there and besides, if were gonna get married we need to share time at eachothers house!" Farkle said.

"Yeah whatever Farkle." Riley said not really listening to him.

Farkle saw what was distracting Riley. He knew Riley was quirky and wanted everything perfect. She wanted Lucas to like her and be her partner. But Farkle didn't like that he had to do something about it..
