Maya was still reading until she got to Chapter 20 then she stopped.
All of a sudden Josh came downstairs.
"You gotta see this!"
She ran behind him and he stopped at Riley's door. It was kinda opened so you could see a little.
"What?" Maya asked.
"Two words. Look.Listen." Josh told her.
Maya looked through the door open crack.
It was Lucas and Riley talking.
"Lucas, I don't know how much longer I can do this. I hate pretending. Let's just tell her!" Riley said to him. Maya was wonder who "her" was.
"Riley I promise we will. Soon. Not now. After Christmas. I just don't want to mess anything up. You know I would never do anything I thought was wrong." Lucas said.
"You said that before. And before and before that. I'm starting think that you are serious about this!" Lucas pulled Rile toward him. He played with her hair and said this: "If I wasn't serious would I do this?" He kissed her passionately.
Joshua's mouth dropped. Maya could do nothing but try not to cry. Feelings weren't her.
Then Lucas stopped and looked in Riley's eyes. Riley grabbed his neck and they kissed and hugged eachother.
Josh and Maya left and went in his room. Nothing was said for minutes. Just tears and heartbreak. Joshua looked and at Maya.
"Maya...? Talk to me. Look at me." She turned around to him. He wiped her tears off of her face.
"I think I know who "her" is!" She cried but joked.
"Yeah. Looks like that Lucas guy has something coming his way!"
"What? Joshua your not gonna beat him up are you?"
"No. But when I get him oh he's gonna wish I was just beating him up."
"No, you not hurting him!"
"He hurt you Maya and I gave you my word that I would never let that happen!"
"He didn't hurt I'm just hurt. I liked him it's not like we were dating or anything!"
"You want this to happen to you again?"
"No but I am a 7th grade female this stuff is gonna happen all the time!"
"Not while I'm around!"
"Joshua promise me you want hurt him?"
"Fine. Promise!"
Maya left upset at both Lucas and Joshua. But for dumb reasons.
Riley's parents came home at 9:30 and since it was so late they brought burgers and fries. At dinner everything was awkward. Riley was mad at Maya because odd whey she said. Maya was mad at Riley for she did. And Joshua was just mad at Riley for messing up her friendship with Maya.
"Dad, if you friend said something to you that you knew was wrong but it still hurt you?A little." Riley asked.
"Well sweety, sometimes friends do things that friends aren't suppose to do. It's just your decision to forgive them or not. Because maybe what they say can be hurtful but the truth hurts sometimes. Whether it hurts you or them. The truth will always set you free."
Riley looked over to Maya and turned back to her father. Maya knew she was talking about her.
"But Riley before you go and think that your wrong or this "friend" is wrong you need to talk to them. Having feelings grudged inside of you only makes matters worse. It's not healthy at all because one day all thug pain and anger builds up and explodes. Then, nothing BUT the truth comes out. And like your father said, the truth can hurt you and your fellow man." Toganaga Matthews exclaimed.
Maya felt a so ashamed. She knew thug she was holding all of her feelings inside and it hurt her to know the truth. Knowing that Lucas and Riley were an item and that eyes didn't tell her made her feel like they weren't really her friends. That they didn't have her back!
