As Adam, Kalson, and Kate march up a hill, one where they had come from patrol, and Kate was the first to speak. "Can you two please talk. It's been hours, and I'm tired of your silent glares and angered grunts." Adam rolled his eyes, "Adam, be the first to apologize and Kalson will follow.
"I have nothing to be sorry for. I still have my suspicions about Jasper's story and questions that beg to be answered."
"Oh shut it, will ya. Why are you pushing this so hard?" Kalson said stopping the men in their tracks. Adam stepped to him, face to face, and glare to glare. "Because he should be dead. Werewolves have the second sharpest senses after Vampires. They smell you before you even see them. I've encountered enough of them to know that, and you damn well know that something is wrong here. Do not play me for a fool Kal. We've not worked in this profession for all these years to ignore our basic training and our hunter's instinct." He exhaled slowly. "Use your head Kalson, please." When he didn't say anything right away Adam scoffed and muttered under his breath. "I didn't endanger my life to be mistrusted."
Kalson couldn't deny how right Adam was. He had been gone for nearly two days but came back fully awake and aware and he wouldn't have had Adam on the team so long if he did not trust this man's instinct and his knowledge of all things supernatural. "Jasper is new, he came on while you were sick... he was a trainee just days ago, but I've had my eyes on him." Adam stopped walking again. This time not turning around to face his friend. Kalson swore. "What made you suspect him? I hadn't told a soul, and you come back and accuse him before a room full of hunters with balls so big that you didn't even flinch when they all aimed their guns at you... even Kate didn't hesitate to defend you and trust your judgment... I don't have the luxury as a leader, but as someone who trusts you, I will look into him if he uneases you that much."
Adam sighs and finally gives him an understanding look, one in which he showed that he knew that this situation wasn't an easy one to be in charge of. "I understand. But like I said, he gives off a vibe that I simply cannot ignore. He is too young and untrained and he makes me question every word that he said this morning during the meeting. It isn't that I do no trust your judgment my friend, it is that I do not trust him. And as a hunter, if you do not trust the man or woman at your back, then you might as well give up your life to their gun. Please consider where I'm coming from."
Kate was left alone with Kalson. To which he shrugged and sighed. "He isn't wrong Kalson, Jasper seems more than eager, but he also seems to be the only one who can get a close enough peek at the pack in human form... if that isn't something that worries you then please reconsider your position as our leader, because those red flags cannot be ignored, not when the full moon is nearing its peak." He walked off following his friend as he left another to his thoughts. Kate caught up to Adam and gulped when he saw young jasper being carried towards the medical center that was kept close to the main office. Two fellow hunters were keeping the boy up while another followed carrying hers and Jasper's gear. "Kalson!" Kate shouted. Adam hadn't moved from his spot, not when Kate grabbed his shoulder or when Kalson ran up to join them. "It's Jasper, he's been attacked!" Jaeger shouted when Kalson saw them handing him off to the doctor and nurse that came running outside. "Adam?" Kate tried.
"They either turned on to him or lured him in close enough to attack him as a warning to us."
"Wait, what are you saying?"
He finally moved, turning to look at Kate. "I'm saying that they did this on purpose. They made him get close to Kate... these werewolves aren't foolish, this was planned. We need to get the word out to the villagers and the churches... they have bunkers that can hold large groups. Kate, send the messengers out. No one is to be forgotten. We need to gather all the hunters back here before we are outwitted."
