Lexander had never spoken of his origins to anyone, especially not a hunter, but Adam was not just another bloodthirsty hunter who was out for supernatural beings' heads. He cared, and his pulse was not lying when he said that he wanted to know about his past.
"My mother was a decedent from an African Clan of Vampires know for their fertility and expert hunting prowess. My father came from a long line of Romanian Vampires that had created a community of Vampire hybrids."
"Hybrids? What kind?"
He chuckled. "You've heard of the Vampire lore I figure? Oh, dear hunter, you surprise me more than I surprise you."
Adam scratched the back of his head. "I studied a lot in the main cities when I was a younger more eager man."
"Hmm, an eager Adam sounds delightful." He said with a dark grin. Adam gulped. "Not really, I was more careless and gun-ho. I didn't care to be careful, not until I met Daarina." Lexander's eyes searched Adam's and he pushed him away softly. "She was the bravest woman I ever knew, and she lived by her own merits and died by them too." He sighed, Lexander could hear his heartbeat rising. "She was a hunter like myself, but she also had a love for medicine. She was strong-willed and never let anyone—especially a man tell her what she could and could not do... why she fell for me, I still do not know. I was reckless and eager to become a hunter after my own mother and father... Lord rest my father's soul."
"Wait... your mother is still alive?"
Adam nodded. "Yes, she and my younger sister live far into the other side of the village near the end of the way, there, we have the other association of Hunters that she overlooks. She's older now, but she's still one of the best hunters that we have. Could take a beast out in a heartbeat if she had to."
"I should be more scare of your mother than you then?" He laughed and Adam joined him. "She was just as caring as Daarina, a reason why I became lucky enough to marry her—wait... your mother Lexander, vampire mothers rarely survive childbirth. How?"
He smiled. "Fertility, the tribe of African Vampires that my mother came from were know for their birthing of strong pure-blooded Vampires. The Vampire tribe that my mother was a part of called Vampirism a gift rather than a curse, and because of it worshiped the witchdoctors and sorcerers that blessed them with fertility. Mother had taken a small tribe of women with her and left when their home, their clan when they were being threatened by other outside forces. The larger tribe that kept more of the children fled and embedded themselves somewhere unsuspecting in another country to begin again... the rest of the tribe broke into smaller groups and they sought out other clans who could use more numbers. Lucky for my mother, the Romanian clan deep into the Hinterland Mountains where my father's people came from were in need of their... special hunting skills and their childbearing ability. See, my father and his fathers before that, their people have taken to creating a hybrid of Vampires that are called Dhampirs."
"Dhampirs'?" Adam was now puzzled, he had not heard of such hybrids before. Lexander licked his lips, cautious to tell him what they were. He touched Adam's cheek with his right hand. "This information is something that's been kept from humans' knowledge for as long as possible for several thousands of years. Can I trust that you won't use this against me?" Adam sensed the hesitation from his lover and felt bad just for a minute moment that he was a hunter and not a regular civilian. "I promise, you can trust me, just as I have trusted you."
Lexander still was not reassured, but with words of a promise, actions must follow, so he brushed away his worry and hoped to see Adam preach what he said. "Alright... Dhampirs are what humans call Daywalkers."
Adam gasped. "The Vampires that survive in the sun?"
"Yes, you're more than a little afraid of them, I see. They tend to not like Vampires as much as their own kind, but that problem has been remedied." Adam didn't understand if his frowned eyebrows were any indication of his puzzlement.
