A/N: Apologies if there are any errors, I had to write this fast because I didn't know that my aunt planned a small party 😅🥰
Ban leads Kate off towards the dining room, he had strung up a conversation on clothing, since he was a picky person when it came to what one chooses to clothe themselves with. It was a bit insightful to hear what he had to say about clothes. “Honestly, I was rather peeved about your attire, but then I realized who you were and what your profession was, so it made sense that your,” his eyes ran up and down Kate, remembering the clothes that he had on when he was brought into their home, “fashion was so barbaric.”
Kate snorted. “Excuse me?” a smile quirked up the corner of Ban's lip and he explained.
“So much boar hide and that odd polyester mix, and those boots… they’ve seen better days I reckon.”
Kate couldn’t help the laughter that slipped out of his mouth. “Well, fuck, and here I thought I had dressed to impress.”
Ban surprised him with a chuckle that was almost as soft and identical to his sisters’. “Was it really that bad?” he asked in earnest.
Ban nodded once his laughter faded. “Yes, but like I said hunter, you work under very hard conditions, so it only made sense to wear thick and nearly impenetrable clothing. Don’t feel bad. I picked out your clothes, and you look much better all cleaned up and well groomed… more or less.”
“Hey,” he said raising a finger, “I take offense to that.”
“As you should. It was meant to make you offended, but this is an upgrade. Keep the clothing, it suits you much better.” They had stopped a foot away from the entrance of the dining area as Ban reached out to fix Kate’s clothing. “You plan to keep your hair this unkempt?” he sighed and ran his hand over Kate’s hair. “Honestly, Oro—uh, Kate.” He sighed as he tugged at his collar to adjust the lapels, “forgive me, four days of getting used to that name makes it harder to call you anything else.”
Kate shrugged. “I don’t mind it. I’m getting fond of it to be frank.”
Ban finished fixing him up and stepped back, smiling. “There, much better. Come along.” He turned around and they continued their conversation as they bent into the entrance that welcomed the large and exquisite room which housed a long table, set beautifully with several chairs enough for a huge family of twenty or more, the wooden walls lined with portrays or women and men, the chandelier overhead lit and ever so antique but so lovely with its gold adornments and artistic style. Kate’s eyes shun in the brightly lit room, it came as faster than he could have expected in the next second Kate jumped back, tripping over his feet and flailing his arms out as he knocked Ban backwards and caused them both to fall back.
The blade of the dagger glinted off the light, and sliced through the air before Kate’s very eyes as it cut pass the men, less than a few millimeters from the tip of Kate’s nose where it embedded itself into the frame of the entryway with a solid thuck. Kate whipped his head in the direction of the dagger and caught the dark irises of who he supposed was another Witch.
“What in Gods name Louis!”
Kate snapped around to check on Ban, who was less than enthusiastic. He crouched near his side, to make sure that he hadn’t hurt him, but Ban was more angry than hurt, so Kate knew that there was no immediate threat and that he should worry about Ban’s anger and not his physical state.
Kate stood up and helped Ban to his feet, his face hard as he glared towards the man, who he had been addressed as Louis. Ban’s focus was on Louis, not even bothering to take on the hunter in the least.
