A simple mistake, and that is all it took for their blade to reach my flesh...

"VABA!!!!!"

Oh, vehvi, the sound of your shrieking voice breaks my heart so...

I hit the glassy sand, so cold in the frigid night, so hard underneath these old and tired bones...

"Vehvi... run..."

My dear vehvi, you must save yourself... You cannot fall into the hands of these men!

"VABA!! VABA, NO!"

To think that the first time I'd see her cry, it would be like this... how very tragic. And yet, as they approached us, she covered me with her own tiny, frail body, her own tears falling against my old, dry skin...

It's so sad, and yet, I was so happy. My time had come, and I had spent my last days taking care of that child, helping her grow... I loved her, and she loved me in return. She would have made a strong commander of the Gerudo.
Such a strong vai, my vehvi...

In the end, I was able to pass down the forbidden magic I was entrusted with to a worthy apprentice, even if she wasn't one of us...

...

"NGAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!"

?!?!

What is this...?! Vehvi, what kind of demon has possessed you like this?!

...No, not a demon... Vehvi, you must control yourself!!

With my blurred vision, I could see pillars of fire and ice weave around us, up into the sky, the agonizing screams of the evil men pleading for mercy that never came...

Vehvi, what have you done...?

The wind howls in the chaos of the calamity, until it suddenly comes to a stop.

Tiny hands...

I can feel her small, gentle hands cradling my head, and she's calling for me.

Oh vehvi, please don't cry... Vaba will always be here for you...

Always and forever...

A child's tears wet the desert's icy sands as the wind howled with her voice.

"HELP ME!!! ANYONE, PLEASE!!"

Her feet had blisters and cuts, and her eyes had a rosy tint that glimmered with the puddles that had become of her eyes.

Her arms had crimson lines that dripped blood as well, though the body she dragged on her back had a bigger crimson line that made her arms pale in comparison.

Her screams woke the people in the small settlement, a miracle for a lost soul in the middle of nowhere. Some children cried, some women screamed. I saw the girl lose herself in her despair, and soon she was barking orders at the adults around her, and then she would be on her knees begging for their help. I think that is a really strange behavior humans tend to have.

"We must tend to her wounds and take her to Kakariko Village," one woman said. "They have exceptional knowledge in medicine, but we must hurry."

I saw the girl cry harder. Why would you cry harder when things can get better though? Humans are weird.

That's what I've learned as a child of the forest. Humans are weird but they are certainly fun to be around! The Great Deku Tree knows more about them than us, though. Plus, while only people with pure hearts and children can see us, anyone can see the Great Deku Tree.
