Ender was reclining on a bench, staring up at the summer clouds and admiring how they looked with the setting sun. Before long, he noticed a few stars behind some of them, which was his personal signal to begin prowling for the target of his mission.
No, no, no! Why this dream again?!
In his natural state, he blended in well with the shadows casted by the buildings, only being noticeable by his eyes and, very rarely, the glowing rings on his body. Before long, he had reached the last recorded site of the target, an empty strip mall that was soon to be renovated, and was able to catch a trace of his scent.
I don't want to see this again.
He cocked his head when he realized the scent had led him to what appeared to be a harmless young man. His magical aura threw him off, forcing his rings to glow briefly. Within that split second, the boy spotted him and hesitated, unaware of what was to come.
Don't ask me the question. Please, don't ask.
"Are... are you a spirit? Just like me?" His voice sounded hollow within the dream, but Ender knew he truly sounded beautiful, as if he tuned his voice every morning. "I'm Azazel. Nice to meet you, fellow spirit!"
Don't let me touch his hand, it's a trap!
After meeting paw with palm, the young Ender began to return to his human form. When he finished, he quickly realized he was almost a head shorter than his new acquaintance. "My name's, uh, Ender. Happy to meet you, Azazel!" he said with a slight blush. What he didn't notice was the quick smile he made to himself.
Please, let this dream end! Just stop this already!
"Anyway, I have to get back to exploring the city. I've only been here a few days, so I wanna learn a lot about this place!" The young Ender was excited about getting to know the area, and, now knowing other spirits could also be here, was also excited to make new friends he could trust later on. As he began to walk off, Ender's vision began to fade to black. It didn't stop him from hearing what he feared the most and what he'd always ignored.
"He's been spotted. Yes, I'll keep tabs on him. He'll be fine when we're done. I hope. He's still just a child, Vomi, we don't need to scar him for life. I hope you know what you're getting into with him, he seems smarter than he's letting on. We'll talk again soon."
