EIGHT - BITE ME

MARK’S POV

“So, when are we going to meet your girlfriend?” Wade asked, grinning widely at me as he sat down on my couch. He had come to LA with his girlfriend Molly to visit.

“I don’t have a girlfriend,” I rolled my eyes, running my hands through my hair.

“You might as well. You like her, don’t you?”

“Well, yeah, but she doesn’t think so. I tried to tell her that I did, and that I wanted to be with her, but it came out wrong and she didn’t let me finish,” I explained, shaking my head at the thought of the disaster that had occurred.

“Have you guys been talking, at least?” Molly wondered.

“Yeah, but it feels weird, now,” I replied. Just then, my phone started ringing. “Speak of the devil…”

“Alyssa?” Wade guessed.

“Aubrey, but close enough,” I said. “Hello?” I answered the call.

“Hey, Alyssa, and I are going to the beach. Wanna tag along?”

“Can I bring some friends?”

“You have friends?” Aubrey joked. Her, Alyssa and I had started to hang out together more often than just me and Alyssa, so we were pretty comfortable with each other.

“Ouch, that hurt,” I complained. “But yes, I do. It’s Wade and Molly, I’m pretty sure you know who they are.”

“Of course! Lys and I would love to meet them!”

“Alright, we’ll see you soon, then.”

“Later.” I hung up and Molly and Wade looked at me, puzzled.

“Are you guys down for a beach trip?” I questioned them.

“Definitely!” So it was settled. We got changed and headed out. I found Alyssa’s car in the parking lot, so I knew they had arrived. I called Aubrey, asking where they were. They said they were on the left, near the water, so that was where my friends and I headed. I found Alyssa and Aubrey quickly, and I motioned towards Molly and Wade to follow me.

“Molly, Wade, this is Aubrey and Alyssa. Aubrey, Alyssa, this is Molly and Wade,” I introduced them to each other. Handshakes and “Nice to meet you”s were thrown around and as we set up our towels and everything we had brought, Molly found the chance to sneakily say, “She’s gorgeous, Mark. You need to make a move before someone else does,” without anyone else hearing.

Molly was right. Alyssa had a lot to offer. Everything about her was beautiful. Her long, wavy brown hair that got tossed around in the wind. Her eyes that were bluer than the ocean. Her smile that could light up the whole city of Los Angeles. Her tattoos that fit her so well. And her body…she looked perfect in her swimsuit, and it took me back to our night together after the party at the club.

“Be careful, you might start drooling,” Wade joked, and I shoved him.

“Oh, shut up, Wade!”

“Hey, if it helps, she’s been checking you out too,” he added.

After setting up our towels, we decided to cool off in the water. Alyssa took my hand and pulled me behind her, just like she had when she wanted me to dance with her before. I really needed to stop having flashbacks of her and I. It just reminded me of how awkward things were now, and how I had screwed things up. I knew I needed to fix it, but it wasn’t exactly the right time. And besides, what if she didn’t want it to be fixed? What if she liked this friendship more?
