ELEVEN - GIRLFRIEND
ALYSSA’S POV
There was something so exciting about secrets. The riskiness of it, maybe. I guess that was why I didn’t tell Aubrey about my date with Mark. She hadn’t seen us kiss or overheard anything before he left, so she assumed everything was just the same as it had been - Mark and I being just friends with the occasional benefits. Because of this, I decided to have a little fun, and keep the whole thing a secret for a bit. I mean, it was just one date, anyways. He wasn’t technically my boyfriend yet or anything.
“You look nice. Where are you headed?” Aubrey asked as I grabbed a light jacket and put it on over a lacy black top that I paired with a leather skater skirt and black Vans.
“I’m just going out to dinner with Alex,” I lied, hoping she wouldn’t ask him about it.
“Well, that explains the cute clothes, then. Have fun!” she said, and I headed out the door.
“Wow, you look great!” Mark greeted me outside. He had come to pick me up, and it looked like he was just about to head inside to get me.
“Thanks, so do you,” I grinned. He had gotten a haircut earlier, which looked awesome. His super long locks were gone, and he was back to a faux hawk, but it suited him well. He was dressed in a gray, short sleeved button up shirt with dark jeans, red Vans, and a black jacket.
“I was just coming upstairs to get you,” he explained, and I laughed.
“I know, but I never really got around to telling Aubrey that we were going on a date. I figured she’d overreact and tell everyone,” I admitted.
“That’s kind of understandable. I feel like she’d whip out a camera and start vlogging about it or something,” Mark chuckled softly. I noticed that he had shaved a little, leaving some short scruff on his chin, which I loved.
“Yeah. Have you told anyone yet?”
“No, not yet. My friends would probably freak out too.”
We changed the subject when we got to the restaurant of my choice, which had been Buca di Beppo. It was pretty busy, which made it take longer for us to get our food and whatnot, but that just gave us more time to talk. But, of course, once we were done with dinner, we had done enough talking.
“Do you want to stay the night at my place?” Mark wondered as we left.
“Wow, that’s a straightforward offer,” I laughed.
“I don’t mean…I just don’t want to have to say goodnight to you yet,” he clarified.
“Well, whatever you mean, I’ll have to let Aubrey know and maybe even grab some clothes,” I answered.
“What are you going to tell her?” he wondered.
“The truth. I’ll just have to make sure she doesn’t go telling the whole world. I’d rather people heard it from me.”
When we got to my apartment, I quickly went inside and grabbed the necessities: a change of clothes, a toothbrush, deodorant, makeup remover, etc. Aubrey must have heard me come in, because she knocked on the wall outside of my room, seeing that the door was open, and walked in.
“Hey. How was dinner?”
“Really good,” I told her.
“Are you staying at Alex’s place?”
“Not his place, Mark’s. I went on a date with Mark tonight, Aubrey. I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d have a big reaction and I just wanted to have a normal, relaxing dinner with him, no pressure. I’m sorry I wasn’t honest with you,” I apologized.
