Weeks had past as I grew closer to the Vadállat family. I spent time with them often on my days off of work, it was nice.Going to school, on the other hand, was not.
Since I had never been to public school before, I had no idea how rude other students could be. Every day in my classes, I was picked on and teased, being practically targeted by the student body. I didn't get it, why make fun of someone just by the way they look or act? It wasn't fair, but that was life I guess.
I walked down the hallway to my next class, which happened to be US History Honors. As I walked in, the kids immediately started staring at me. I ignored them as I sat in my seat in the back corner, waiting for class to start.
"Good afternoon class," Mr. Wallace started as the bell rang. "Today we will be reading about the Holocaust and how it affected... Excuse me, Ms. Eves, am I interrupting your conversation with Mr. Downs?"
She giggled lightly, looking at him without a care. "No sir, we're just talking."
"About what, may I ask?" When she didn't answer, he added, "Kyle, if you're so invested in your conversation with Maria, then maybe you could share with the class."
He smirked as he replied, "We're just discussing a problem with a student. Rumor has it that someone in the classroom is apparently too open to the public, if you know what I mean."
Mr. Wallace sighed, "Rumors are just rumors, Mr. Downs, nothing more."
"Oh, but you haven't heard what she's done. I promise you, it will shock you."
The teacher crossed his arms, clearly aggitated. "You're wasting my time, and your classmate's time."
Kyle looked back at me with a dark smirk. "Sorry, guess I was distracted."
Oh no he didn't.
Mr. Wallace looked in my direction confused, clearly not buying this bullshit. Instead of dealing with it further, he just rubbed his eyes annoyed. "Anyway, let's continue with the lesson."
I sighed as I did my work. What the hell was wrong with these kids?
Later than I had hoped, the bell finally rang. I picked up my stuff, intending to run out, but I was stopped in my tracks outside the door by Maria and Kyle.
"Where do you think you're going, whore?" Maria cooed, clearly trying to get under my skin.
"Look who's talking," I replied without a beat.
Kyle glared, "Who the fuck do you think you're talking to, bitch?"
"To someone who clearly doesn't know how to keep their mouth shut."
Maria stepped closer, now being mere inches from my face. "Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
I crossed my arms, glaring back. "You started it, cunt."
"That is some attitude you're giving me."
"You're the one that threw it. Now get the fuck outta my face before I make you."
As Kyle stepped closer, Traitor stood in his way. "And what do you think you're doing?"
Kyle was a few inches shorter than him, so he had to look up to talk back. "Just setting some shit straight, ya mind?"
"Yeah, I do. You're messing with my girl and I don't tolerate that shit."
He chuckled, "C'mon Maria, let's bail. They ain't worth our time." He drapped his arm over her shoulders before walking off.
