" A TM? " Nurse Joy asked as she took Riolu for healing.

" Yup. Brock told me to ask you. "

" Putting it into simple words, it's a device which can teach Pokémon new moves. Certain Pokémon can learn certain moves once you find a TM. TM stands for 'Technical Machine' by the way. "

" What about the HM? "

" The same as TM but the thing is that, Pokémon may or may not naturally learn those moves which the TM teaches. But the moves the 'Hidden Machine' teaches won't come naturally. "

" I see... Will I find it anywhere? "

" Involves some searching. People you meet may give it to you too. "

The next day, we set out for the Viridian Forest. We spent the night at Brock's house. He had seven siblings to take care of. His father had moved away to adventure and mother passed away due to the stress. Brock was under a lot of pressure; to uphold his name as the Pokémon Gym Leader and as an elder brother.

It was noisy as expected but Brock managed everything with surprising efficiency. Everyone liked Riolu a lot. His ears got a lot of attention yesterday.

While walking, the grass rustled. I thought it was a Pokémon and Riolu tensed. But it was an ordinary Pidove making its nest.
However, something 'moved' on the opposite side. We expected a Caterpie or a Weedle or something but a jolt of electricity hit us. It was quite the 'shocking' experience.

Jumped from the wild, was a Shinx.

Of course, it was not intentional but a few caught us again. If proper training is given, Shinx could become quite a strong Pokémon.

" Riolu, you ready? " I asked. His response was positive. My Pokédex had already scanned the Shinx and warned about its Static ability. Touching it directly, could consciously send out a wave which could cause paralysis.

" Okay, no matter what, don't touch Shinx directly. It's a 60% chance of getting paralyzed. "

Riolu nodded and went ahead. A cry and Shinx released a massive electric current. Riolu managed to avoid it at the cost of a few fur-fries. "Use Agility!" Riolu sped up. The master plan was to manoeuver till Shinx's electricity was over. That seemed to take quite some time.

I caught myself wondering...

Lately I have been using evasion moves more frequently and set defense as the priority although I am more of an 'ATTACK' type of guy. It's just that Riolu is too inexperienced to learn proper attack moves yet. But surely, I will switch soon enough.

The moment I had been waiting for had come. Shinx's charge was rapidly decreasing, both in intensity and frequency. I thought that this would be the perfect chance to...
