❦ Prologue ❦
55 years ago – Earth time
Queen Arielle watched her children play, her twin girls swimming away as their older brother tried to chase them with just his feet. She smiled, although her children are all different from each other, they still found a way to play a game that would include all three of them. Her hybrid child doesn't struggle as much as she is of both land and water, while her little mermaid could only stay on the water as she is not old enough to have legs. Uriel, even though 5 years older than the twins, has his way of making sure he can still bond with them.
The little mermaid shrieked as her brother managed to hold on to her tail and hugged her to his chest tickling her sides in the process. Shrieks of laughter can be heard over the whole place and the couple smiled happily at them. The little hybrid just looked over her siblings, smiled and stayed in her place observing them. At the tender age of 5, she is a very wise kid. Her knowledge of everything astonished even her parents. She was always quiet and observing on the sidelines, her eyes analyzing every detail that is happening around her. For she knows that one day, she will leave this family. For she does not belong in this world, her heart knows this for a fact. Soon it will be time to say goodbye.
"Sister, help me!!!" the mermaid screamed while laughing as her brother continued to tickle her.
The other twin quietly dipped down on the water and made her way to his brother. Making sure that her tail doesn't cause too much ripple on the water so she does not giveaway her location. This is easy she thought to herself. She saw her brother's legs and slowly and so gently pulled him down with her. Her sister managed to free herself away from her brother and laughed at the surprise frown on her brother's face. She noticed him starting to struggle with his breath as they went deeper into the ocean. His ankle was tightly held by the hybrid girl. The mermaid made a bubble of air and sent it to his older brother's face which he was instantly engulfed with. Once he was able to catch his breath, he curled around and took hold of his sister's hand and smiled evilly as her eyes widened realizing the onslaught that his brother is about to start. She tried to free herself from his clasp as she thought "I don't want to get tickled.", but his brother is strong.
He hugged her to his chest and started to tickle her as she struggled against him. Finally, after a few minutes of struggling, she freed herself away from his brother and she swam further away from her siblings as they laughed with her. She sat on a rock as she tried to catch her breath, and then a flash of light appeared before her, and everything went black at once.
The older kid, upon seeing his little sister lose consciousness swum to her as fast as he can, the other twin followed suit, both of their faces painted with worry and panic.
They both rushed to the surface as he held his little sister's body. The couple saw them emerged and were instantly on their feet when they saw their daughter's unconscious body in their eldest arms.
"Oh my darling," the King exclaimed, "What happened?" he asked the two children and they explained what happened through each of their points of view. They finished their story at the same moment that the healer finished checking on Heaven.
"What's wrong with her?" the Queen asked with worry as she held the hand of her little girl, Her other arm wrapped around the little mermaid as she cried.
"I did not see anything physically wrong with her, but her spirit..." the healer trailed off, unsure of how to tell them the situation of their child, the princess. "her spirit is very weak, I am afraid she might not have long to live." He finished, and the family cried as they realized that they might lose her early. Way too early.
3 years later, they lost the little girl. At the tender age of 8, she left her family, the couple lost one of their precious children, as the other one swam away to stay with her own kind. Their eldest the only one to stay with them in their world.
