I shouldn't have said that, I thought to myself as I mentally facepalmed. Elana was now kind of scared and was now asking questions.
"What do you mean it's going to hurt?!" Elana said, almost shouting. I shushed her so she didn't attract any attention to us.
"You'll see, but I promise it won't hurt that much. Besides, it'll heal relatively quickly" I said to Elana, while Maddy sweatdropped as she forgot to tell her about this part of the ceremony.
I don't blame her, we were not supposed to tell about the Blood bondage to humans. Elana, however, was not a human; well not anymore. This part of the ceremony is why the government keeps this a secret from the public.
If the public knew they would think we were some sort of cult and make us out to be slightly more just like the Reds. Blues are not... I would definitely know. I know the Reds way too well, and more than any Blue here.
"Now, let the Blood bondage ritual begin. All new Superlings come up!" Grace Ray said, and then Elana and 11 other newly awakened Superlings went on the stage. They all varied in age from 12-15, but the age difference is fairly close together.
Elana looked at me, kind of nervous as Grace got a ceremonial blue dagger out of the safe. I looked to Elana and nodded, comforting her in the best way I could. It seemed I was always a natural at despite the fact that I myself am an emotional wreck in crowds.
I could tell though, she already knew who she was going to be paired with. I could tell when I stared into her eyes. Elana was the third one in line, and Grace went down the line as she recited the lines with the Superlings and then cut both their palms, lines of crimson going down their wrists and the rest of their unaffected palms.
That was when their marks glowed white, pairing with that of a Superhuman in the crowd whose mark also started to glow. Then Elana came, and she nervously recited the lines back to Grace who helped her out, then her palm was slit like the ones before her. She cringed for a second but then eased, as the pain dissipated.
Elana had always been an interesting person, but something happened after her palm was slit. Her mark glowed as usual, but it glowed brighter than the other Superlings and she started to float off the ground. Grace noticed this and went wide eyed as it seemed she had never seen this in her life either.
Elana's eyes fluttered open and closed before they opened a final time and they were a glowing white husk as she let out a wave of energy that was effecting everyone... but me. That was when my marking glowed a bright purple and I knew... they all knew.
She's going unstable, you're the only one who can help her as her Master, Grace said to me via telepathy. I nodded and ran over there, pushing away the collapsing crowd and dead set on Elana... on my Apprentice.
Once I got on there I jumped up to her and hugged her, pulling her back down to the ground and I managed to stabilize her. Elana was on her knees, sweating and looking a bit sickly. Grace sighed a sigh of relief and I got Elana off the stage as Grace went back to the ceremony. Maddy came up to us and she was as shocked as I was.
"Woah... I never seen any Superling do that before!" Maddy said, and I nodded with her just as surprised.
"I don't think anything like that happened for over a thousand years..." I said, and then Elana and Maddy looked at me with their mouths wide open.
"Wait you don't mean the first Superhumans do you?! Oh my! If that's so then Elana is destined to be on the High Authority!"
Elana sweatdropped and told her that was impossible as she lacked the leadership qualities for it. I chuckled and pat her on the back.
"We shall see Apprentice. You look like you're starving, follow me. I'll get you something to eat" I told her, and we walked to the food area. She chose what she wanted to eat while I got some sushi and some edibles since I deal better in crowds slightly high.
Superhumans can't really get drunk, only buzzed, from alcohol. Our metabolisms are different from that of a humans, and we can't really get high off of anything... well, maybe only a select few things. Elana looked at me while eating her burger and I chuckled. Casey then came over and noticed us, she waved and sat down next to Elana.
"Hey, sorry I blew you off earlier Elana. How has life been since Maddy and I were gone?" Casey asked her, and Elana was now smiling ear to ear. It was good to see Elana this happy, and I know she was going to be happy here; I just know it.
"It was kind of boring to be honest... things aren't the same without you, Maddy, and Karmyn... oh! Is Karmyn here to?!" Elana asked, ecstatic. Casey's smile slowly faded at the question and when Elana noticed she was starting to get sad to.
"She's not in this facility, no, but she is safe in another Blue facility. One that is in Delaware. When she awakened it was the time when her mother had most of the weekly custody of her, so she is living in the Delaware Blue facility"
Elana sighed in relief that Karmyn was not taken by Reds, and if that were the case I would be just as heartbroken. Someone like Karmyn would not survive in conditions such as that, and she would be easily broken. The Delaware facility is as good as this one, which is the Maryland one; I am sure she is just as happy there.
These Superhuman facilities are one of the safest things in the country, and they are really hard to hack into security wise and almost impossible to invade. I have no idea who came up with these facilities, but they were a genius.
Elana and Casey were talking for what seemed like an hour, catching up on life and hoping they were in some of the same classes. I assume Elana and her current roommate Maddy were discussing this as well, and I wish them the best of luck with that.
I know now that Elana and I were going to be roommates starting tomorrow since it was custom for Superlings to room with their paired Superhumans, and I honestly think it is a good and logical idea; if the Superhuman sleeps in the same room as their Superling then the Superlings will be better protected.
I went on to joke with Casey and Elana, and we both laughed. We were both having a good time, but oh how it would end at that same very moment.
Elana's phone and my phone buzzed, and it was a text from Nick. Both of our hearts dropped once we read it.
You need to look at the news, people from our school are getting sick... some have already died, Nick texted to Elana and I.
Never in a million years have I ever wanted to throw up so badly.
