Chika sat in her room, on her bed, eating a mikan. She had lost her ability to speak about a year ago, and ever since, she hadn't gone out in public much. She just stayed in her room and had been home schooled her whole second year. She missed her best friend and crush, You, but she knew she would just be an annoyance if they tried to hang out, You didn't know sign language after all.

Around her family, Chika just wrote things down on a notebook she wanted to say, or did sign language since they had all learned it, but she knew most people didn't have enough patience to wait for her to write everything out, and that most people didn't know sign language. She wondered if there would someday be a way for her to communicate with people quickly in a way they easily understand. She had hope that something like that would become a real thing.

Chika opened her mouth and tried to make a sound, but she got nothing. She usually tried at least once or twice a day, hoping maybe her voice would come back. She finished her mikan and tossed the outside skin part into a trash can close to her. Suddenly, there was a knock at her door. She guessed it was a family member and returned the knock pattern against her rooms wall. Her way of signaling for whoever it was to come in.

The door opened, but rather than a family member, it was You. Chika looked surprised. You ran over and crawled on the bed. Then You hugged her "Chika-chan! It's been so long! I would have come over sooner but with school, swim club, and neither of us having free time, there was no good time to come over." You said. Chika was even more confused. She hadn't wanted You to come over since she knew her loss of voice would just be a problem.

But she really did miss You, and the hug made her feel really warm inside. She hugged You back and blushed a little. "So.. how've you been? I'm sure homeschooling hasn't been very exciting." You asked. Chika looked around and found her notebook. She grabbed a pencil and flipped to a blank page, then tried to write as fast as she could. You could see that she looked rushed and stressed while writing.

"Hey, Chika-chan, slow down a little. If you write too fast I won't be able to read it. I don't mind waiting, so take your time." You said, trying to calm her down. Chika slowed down a little and wrote a reply. She was really thankful that her slow writing didn't bother You, so she made sure to write that down as well. Then she showed the notebook to You.

You took it from her and read it. She looked a little sad at first while reading it, but then happier towards the end of the message. Chika had written about how it was a bit lonely and boring to be mostly by herself, but she was really happy to see You again. "I'm happy to see you again too, Chika-chan." You said.

They talked for a while, You using her words while Chika used her notebook. Chika got to hear a bunch of stories from You about what happened over the past year for her. Chika didn't have much to write about what happened to her over to past year since not much really happened, but she did have a few fun things to write about. She also wrote a little about her concerns with not being able to communicate well with people.

"Maybe theres some motions you can do that people will still be able to easily understand." You said. 'Like what?' Chika wrote down. "Well, for example, instead of having to sign or write 'Like what', you could just tilt your head to show you're curious or confused. And of course theres also nodding for agreeing or shaking your head or disagreeing." You explained.

You then saluted her "and theres this for Aye aye!" She said and giggled. Chika made a giggling motion, but no noise. "And you can silently giggle to show you think somethings funny." You pointed out. Chika realized You was right. There were a few ways for her to communicate basic things with people without having to write words down.

Chika thought of something to try. She wrote 'I thought of a really fun one' on her notebook. "Ok, lets see." You said and waited patiently. Chika took a deep silent breath. Then she leaned forward and kissed You on the lips. She was expecting You to flinch or pull away, but You actually kissed her back.
Chika was really surprised in a happy and good way to see that You liked the kiss.

They finally moved away after about a minute. Chika blushed and grabbed her notebook. Then she wrote 'and that one means...I love you.' she showed it to You and got a bit embarrassed. You's face turned light red. "I-I love you too Chika-chan." she said and gave Chika another kiss. They were both smiling and blushing a lot.

There was a knock at the door and Mito walked in. Chika and You quickly moved away from each other. Mito could see they were all blushy and embarrassed. She smirked a little "Whens the wedding?".  Chika glared at her and threw a plushie at her. Mito laughed and pulled the plushie off "Alright alright, I'm sorry. I Just wanted to check on you two. Guess I came at a bad time, so I'll go now." Mito said and left.

Chika really wished she could let out an irritated sigh at that moment. You could easily tell that Chika wasn't happy. She hugged Chika and kissed her cheek "It's ok Chika-chan. She was just teasing. Don't let it bother you too much." She said softly. Chika calmed down nodded to signal 'I know...'.

The two spent the rest of the day cuddling and figuring out ways to communicate better.
