- a few days later -
Elvira got a call from the hospital.
"Hello?" She says.
"Is this Elvira Blackwood?" A woman says on the other side.
"This is," Elvira says, folding laundry.
"Your friend Amy woke up. And she wants to see you," the woman says.
Elvira stops and thinks about her friend for a minute. She thinks about how she looked like when she saved her. All beaten and bruised. Bleeding all over the place.
"Ma'am? Are you able to come in?" The woman asks.
"Ah, y-yes, I'll be there in about 20 minutes," Elvira puts the clothes down.
"Alright, I'll tell her. Have a nice day!" She says before hanging up.
Elvira puts her phone down and stares at the time. She grabbed her purse, random pair of shoes and started running to the hospital.
The run seemed to take forever. Every stoplight seemed to be a no crossing for a overly excessive amount of time and the sidewalks were crowded.
But once she made it to the hospital about 15 minutes later, she slowly made her way to Amy's room with her heart pounding in her ears.
She pushes open the wooden door to reveal Amy sitting up, staring out the window. A nurse stood next to her messing with something.
"Amy?"
The nurse and Amy turned to see her. The nurse took the hint and walked out. Amy looks Elvira up and down. It must have taken her a second for her head to process because it didn't look like she recognized Elvira at first. But when she did her eyes turned red and lifted her hands.
"El!" Amy leaned for her best friend.
Elvira runned to her friend and hugged her tightly.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," tears fell from Elvira's face and onto Amy's shoulder. And the same from Amy to Elvira.
"What are you sorry for?" Amy says while crying.
"I...I...couldn't...find you...I...I...tried, but...Amy...you got hurt...and I'm...I'm...sorry," Elvira sobs.
"El, that is not your fault. So don't beat yourself up about it. Look at me, I'm fine," Amy pulls away and holds her by the shoulders.
The two talked about what happened, how the others are doing, and what will happen in the future.
"So, are they really all gone? Like, they won't come back gone?" Amy asks.
"I don't know. No more of them have appeared since then and no one else has been kidnapped. All I know is that they're gone for now. Which is good. They put up a fairly good fight. It was tough for us to get our hands on them to arrest them," Elvira smiles a little.
"Us?" Amy asks.
"Oh, did I say us? I meant me, er, no I meant the heroes. Not like I'm a hero or anything. No. I meant the heroes. I meant All Might, Cheahire Cat, Eraserhead, Endeavor, Mi-" Elvira starts blabbering.
"El!" Amy says, looking her friend in the eyes.
Elvira looks up and then shys away. She looks at her hands while her ears droop. Knowing she messed up.
"Tell me the truth. Everytime I start talking about the Cheshire Cat or anything about a fight that she was in, you get like this. You get a bit flustered and you start stammering. What is going on? Tell me the truth this time and not some excuse," Amy says, trapping her friend.
"U-um"
"El, it's alright. You can tell me anything. You know that," Amy puts a hand on her shoulder and gives a kind smile.
"I-I'm uh...shoot!" Elvira takes a breath and blurts it out "I'm the Cheshire Cat alright!" She says in a hard whisper.
Amy sits there for a second, in awe. "What?"
"That's why I'm always gone when things get hairy. I don't do errands, I am a hero. The world's number three hero. That's why I'm always hurt. That's why I don't talk about her. I went to U.A. to become a hero. And..and," Elvira trails off, seeing that her friend has big eyes.
"You're not joking, are you?" Amy asks.
"Its true. Here," Elvira pulls her helmet from her bag. Amy takes it and holds it. She inspects it and stares at the front of it.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Amy says, not looking away.
"Because I didn't want you to get hurt. So that you don't ever have to worry about me," Elvira looks up at her friend "you use to tell me to stay away from danger and to never get involved in things like this. And that is how I loved my life for the first 15 years of my life. But then I enrolled into U.A. and I just couldn't watch and let people get hurt when I have the power to actually do something about it. And I hope that you can understand that."
Silence rung through the room and all you could hear was the beeping of the monitor.
"I'm just glad you finally told me. That you even told me. All those years I thought you were just keeping secrets from me because, believe me, you're a terrible liar," Amy chuckled.
"Yeah, guess I am," Elvira smiled.
"Can I try it on?" Amy asks.
"What?"
"The helmet, can I try it on?" Amy turns the helmet, ready to put it on.
"U-uh-yeah! Go ahead, try it. You're the only other person that's put it on," Elvira rubs the back of her neck.
Amy pops the helmet onto her head and looks around.
"It's surprisingly comfortable, but at the same time we don't have the same size of head," her voice sounds muffled as she adjusts it. "But, this is so cool! My best friend is actually THE Cheshire Cat! Omg.omg. Wait! Does this mean I have to keep it a secret as well and not tell the others?" Amy bounces and then stops.
"Yeah, I'd like to not tell anybody else. Rather take it to my grave than risk anything," Elvira pulls the helmet off Amy and puts it back in the bag.
"Can I try the whole suit when I get out of this hellhole?" Amy asks with a large smiles.
"Sure"
