Blackwood straightened in his chair, biting his small finger for some strange reason. The entire family looked at him strangely.
"Now," Blackwood began, "Your aunties tell me you have questions about your dark baptisms and such."
"I do," Sabrina replied as Connor slowly nodded, "But I'm not sure where to begin."
"Allow me," Blackwood requested, "A witch's dark baptism is our most sacred unholy sacrament. The oldest of our rites. We've been performing them for centuries. Our Dark Lord's book, the Book of the Beast, is the most ancient tome in existence."
"About that," Sabrina interrupted, "If we sign our names in the Book of the Beast does that mean we're giving the Dark Lord dominion over our souls?"
"That is one interpretation, but it's largely a symbolic gesture, as rituals in most religions are. What else?"
"I'd assume that signing our names in the Book would grant him the ability to call upon us to do his bidding," Connor spoke up.
Blackwood nodded his head, "All religions demand some sacrifice, but signing your names is more like... a pledge, let's say. That you'll abide by his commandments. Do the two of you know your Thirteen Commandments?"
Connor nodded as his Aunt Zelda added in, "We've taught the both of them."
"They've learned them by heart," Aunt Hilda added.
"I'm not an evil person, Father," Sabrina blurted out, "neither is my brother."
Blackwood laughs as do both aunties, albeit rather forcefully, "I'm glad to hear it, Neither am I. Neither are your aunts."
"But the Devil," Sabrina started.
"The Dark Lord," Blackwood corrected.
"Is often seen as the embodiment of evil," Connor finished for his sister.
"That belief is incorrect," Blackwood responded, "He is the embodiment of free will. Good. Evil. Those words matter to the False God, but the Dark Lord is beyond such precepts."
Connor nodded again, and Sabrina asked, "What about Hell? We don't want to go there when we die."
"I think that's a mortal thing, sis," Connor whispered to his sister.
"First of all if you both accept the Dark Lord's gifts, you won't die, not for a very long time," Blackwood began again, "Second of all, like your brother, said, Hell is for mortals. In exchange for their service and devotion witches are exempt from the eternal flames of damnation." He turned to the aunties, "Really, what's needed here is a fundamental shift in thinking."
Sabrina piped up again, "Okay, but what about my boyfriend? Why do I have to break up with him?"
