Connor got home, navigating himself to his cousin's room, more specifically his miniature library.

"Looking for something in particular, cousin," Ambrose asked him, leaning in the doorway.

"Yeah," Connor responded, "I remember accidentally running across a grimoire about succubi, more specifically, a spell that could make you immune."

"Wrangling with a succubus are we now, cousin," Ambrose asked with a chuckle, "Nasty business, those are."

"Not necessarily," Connor said with an evil grin, "The spell I'm thinking of makes it impossible for one to kill you."

Ambrose picked up what Connor was insinuating and rifled through his books before pulling out the grimoire in question. Handing it to Connor he asked, "Who are you hexing tonight?"

"It's not just one person," Connor said moving past Ambrose, "Thank you."

"You're welcome," He called out as Connor made his way out of the room.

"Aunt Hilda," Connor asked, "Do we have any birdcages?"

Timeskip:

Connor sat in the mines with his familiar, waiting to hear his sister approach. He'd decided to get there early, for no reason in particular, boredom, he supposed. While waiting, he looked down at his familiar, who cocked her head at him.

'What,'  He asked her.

"Use your powers, make an ice cube,"  She said out of nowhere.

'I'm not a freaking refrigerator, I can't just make ice,'  He tried to reason with her, irritated from his lack of sleep.

"Maybe you just need to actually want to use your powers for once, instead of hiding it from everyone."

'It's not that easy,'  Connor said getting up off of the rock he was sitting on and beginning to pace in frustration, 'I don't understand how it works and I don't want to hurt anyone with it!'

"Then what are going to do about it,"  'Luna egged him on, "Kill someone because you can't control your own abilities?"

He fired back, enraged, 'How am I supposed to control this when I don't know how it even happens!?'

"Everyone you care about is going to suffer, all because you can't make up your mind enough to commit to learning that power!"

He refused to believe it: the death of Sabrina and his parents, the pain he watched Susie struggle with, and the dejection of his cousin all flashed before his eyes. He wouldn't let himself harm any one, he wouldn't let anyone he cared be hurt again, he wouldn't let himself be the reason anyone he loved suffered, "No!" His vision sharpened, filled with clear dust as he felt his fingers and eyes chill.
