Chapter 9

"Alright, you are going to head through route 3 to get to Turffield, where Milo's gym is. You'll have to go through one of the mines to get to route 4, which will lead you to Turffeild. Are you, Froakie, and Scorbunny ready to go?" Raihan says, walking Uila towards the route. She smiles. "Yep! Watch out! Before you know it, I'll be back in your gym for an Official battle, which I'll be sure to win as well." He smiles and rolls his eyes. "Alright, get on the route now, it'll take up to a day-and-a-half to get there, so best get moving." Uila mock salutes. "Aye Aye el Capitan. I'll be sure to message you when I'm on my way to Hammerlocke. Take care!" "You too." Uila smiles and sprints off, the pokeballs on her belt jiggling excitedly. A short while later, Uila pulls out Froakie's and Scorbunny's pokeballs, releasing the two. "Alright! We are going to be doing some training in the tall grass. So who wants to battle first?" Scorbunny jumps up, excited. "Alright, go in and find an opponent." She calls out Lucario. "Can you train with him until I finish a battle with Scorbunny?" "Scor! Scor!" "Thanks Lucario!"

She runs over to where Scorbunny was, finding him opposite a low-leveled Bounsweet. "Scorbunny, use Ember!" The bounsweet was hit, knocking out almost immediately. Suddenly, Scorbunny was enveloped in a blue light. When the light faded, a different pokemon was left in Scorbunny's place. She holds up her phone, which scans the newly evolved pokemon, identifying it as Raboot. Raboot kicks the air a couple times. "Oh, did you learn double-kick?" "Boot!" "That's great! Let's head back to Lucario and Froakie." The duo make their way back, Raboot kicking a couple stones along the way. "Hey you two, look who evolved!" Froakie looks over at Raboot with jealousy. "Lucario, can you start Raboot in some more training. I'm going to work with Froakie." "Car!"

She guides the Fraokie over to the grass, running into a grass type pokemon. "Come on Froakie! Use bubble-beam followed by tackle!" "Kie!" The bubble beam strike didn't do much, but it gave an opening for Froakie's tackle to hit hard. "Good job, tackle once more!" That tackle knocks out the weakened grass type. "Good job Froakie!" UIla walks over to the pokemon and heals it up with a potion, letting it run off into the woods. Uila scoops up the tiny frog pokemon. "Aw! Good job!" Froakie cheers but it quickly frowns. "Hey, don't you worry about evolving. It'll happen when it happens. Just be patient, and it will be more than worth it." "Fro, Kie Kie!" "Another round? You sure?" "Kie!" "Alright, let's go find you a battle partner."

A few moments later, they encounter a stufful. "You ready Froakie?" "Kie!" "Alright, use Quick Attack to get in close, followed by bubble beam at close range!" Froakie followed the instructions, but instead of bubbles, a stream of water shot out and hit the Stufful. "Wow! You learned water gun! Well then, water gun once more!" Froakie hit the pokemon dead on, causing it to faint. "Good job Froakie! Soon, you'll be able to take out even Torracat and Lucario!" Froakie climbs onto her shoulders as she heals up the fainted stufful. "There you go, run along now."

Uila and Froakie make their way back to the other pokemon. "Let's set up camp here and make us some lunch. I'll make some pokepuffs along with curry to celebrate Raboot's evolution." The group cheered and Uila let the rest of her party out, which was Manectric, Flapple, and Torracat. They all begin to play, rolling around and chasing each other around the camp. "Hey Uila!" Her attention is turned from her camp, seeing Hop, Gloria, and Victor approaching her. "Hey guys! How are you doing?" Hop bounces excitedly. "Good! We've been training and are heading to Turffield." Uila laughs. "That's where I am heading as well. I'm cooking up some lunch, want to join me?" "Please!" "Yes, thank you." "That would be great!"

Uila smiles. "Go ahead and release your pokemon, mine are all playing around. I'm making some pokepuffs for my team, you guys can have some too when I'm finished." They nod, pulling out a set of pokeballs. Hop notices a few unusual pokemon and tapps Uila's shoulder to ask about them. "Oh, you mean Torracat, and Froakie? Torracat is the second-stage evolution of the Fire-Type Starter for Alola. Froakie is the First-Stage evolution of the Water-Type Starter from Kalos. Torracat doesn't want to finish evolving into Incineroar, so I gave him an everstone to hold. Froakie was hatched a couple days ago, but he is already strong." "Do you have other pokemon?" She nods and places the pokepuffs into a camp oven to cook. She wipes her hands on her apron, heading over to her bag and pulling out her nanodex and the cases in her bag.

"Do you want to see my previous teams?" He nods. "Alright, I'll pull them out. Just give me a couple minutes." She starts with the cases, releasing Oricorio, Kommo-o,and Turtonator. "This was one of my teams for Alola, along with Torracat, Manectric, and Lucario." She grabs another case, releasing Ampharos, Jolteon, and Luxray. "This was my Kalos team, in Elite 4 battles I would have Zebstrika and Magnezone." She fiddles with her nano dex a bit before releasing the two. "I also used Torracat, Lucario, and Manectric, outside of Elite 4 battles." She returns Zebstrika and Magnezone, storing them back into the Nanodex. Hope runs off to go meet her pokemon. She decides to let her teams stay out and enjoy the air as she begins on making a large batch of curry. Lucario comes up to her side, tugging on her shirt. "Hey bud, you want to help?" "Car!" "Alright, can you start cutting these berries?" He nods as she begins to prepare the base, adding in some bitter melon, throwing in salt to try and pull out some of the bitterness. "Car!" "Thank you Lucario. If you could add those into the curry and stir it that would be great, I'm going to check on the pokepuffs and begin the rice." Lucario nods and she turns to Ampharos, calling out to it. "Hey Ampharos, can you come and help make the icing for the pokepuffs? I need to start on cooking the rice!" "Pharos!" Ampharos begins to mix the Icing, similarly to when we Performed in the Pokemon Showcases. Uila laughs softly. "We should make a routine like we used to, that's one thing I miss about Kalos." "Ampharos ros!" "Alright alright, I'm working."

The young trainers observe Uila and her pokemon as they cook, noticing how close they were. Ampharos twirled around and stuck a pose as she was mixing, causing Uila to laugh and talk about something. A Mega Stone on Ampahros' neck glistened brightly, catching their attention. They noticed a similar stone on Lucario's wrist, and another on Manectric's collar, but it was only on those three. They noticed some different crystals on the pokemon, but they weren't the same.

"Alright guys, Lunch is done! Come get it while it is hot!" Oricorio uses psychics to carry the plates and place them in front of both pokemon and their trainers. While they were eating, Victor spoke up. "Hey Uila." She looks up. "Yes?" "What do those stones do that are on Lucario, Ampharos, and Manectric." She pauses. "They allow my pokemon to Mega Evolve. There are only certain pokemon that can Mega Evolve, and there must be a strong connection between Pokemon and Trainer for it to happen. It's pretty draining, but it gives pokemon a boost in battle." Victor nods. "And what about those other stones?" "Oh, those are Z-Crystals, an Alolan speciality only gained through the Island Challenges. It allows a pokemon to use a powered-up move. Torracat holds a Firium Z, which allows him to use a powerful Z-Move, Inferno Overdrive." Hops eyes light up. "Can we see?" "I don't see why not, but after we eat."

Once finished eating, Uila stands up. "Ampharos, let's show them the power of our bond. Breaking the ties of Evolution, Mega Evolve!" I hold my ring up to the sky as Ampharos is overtaken by a blinding light. When it fades, Ampharos has thick, fluffy fur going down its back and covering its tail. Uila moves her body into the position needed for the Z-Move. "Jolteon, show them the power of electricity using Gigavolt Havoc!" The move strikes the Ampharos, who isn't affected by the attack. "Electric Type moves don't affect ampharos due to its ability 'Grounding' when it is Mega-Evolved." Hops eyes widen, as he runs over to Ampharos, who is getting out of the form.

"That's so cool!" Uila smiles. "Yep, we used that form quite a bit when performing in Pokemon Showcases. The crowd loved it." "Showcases?" Gloria questions to which Uila nods. "It's a form of competition without battling. It allows a trainer to show their bond between their pokemon while they perform. They put together routines they perform after a series of challenges. It is quite fun."

Gloria's eyes light up. "That seems like so much fun! Even if I don't compete we could still integrate it into battling." "Those are called pokemon Coordinators, they are more popular in Hoenn and Johto." "Wow!" She nods and begins to clear the dishes, but notices that they are already done, Lucario looking at her triumphantly. "Lucario, did you do the dishes?" "Car!" "Kie Kie!" "Oricorio, io corio!" "Ah, well thank you guys." Hops eyes widen. "You can understand your pokemon?!" Uila scratches the back of her head. "Yeah, I can. I don't really like to brag or show it off, but it is something I can do." "Cool!"

"Anyway, you guys go on ahead and get to Turffield, I'm going to spend a little more time training." "Alright. Bye Uila, thanks for the meal!" "Yeah, thanks!" She laughs as they run off excitedly. "No problem! Stay safe!" She waves goodbye to them, turning to pack up only to find them packed up. "Seriously guys! I can clean up myself you know!" All she is met with is snickers. "Alright, time to go guys. I want to get to Turffield before nightfall." She pulls out their pokeballs, returning all of them except for Ampharos, Lucario, and Froakie and putting them back into their respective places, whether it is on her belt or in their cases.

Froakie climbs up onto Ampharos' neck and promptly falls asleep. "Come on guys, let's continue."
