Chapter 28

Uila rocks on her feet, fiddling with her hands. She was about to go on and face her first opponent in the Semi-Finals, Marnie. She decided she was going to lead out with Ninetails, as her fairy-type moves would work superbly against Marnie's pokemon. Gloria and Victor were next to battle after you, and then it was Hop and some random trainer. The worst part of it was that she knew in Alola people were going to be watching. Her brother and his class would be watching. She noticed her cue and took a breath, holding her head up high.

"The first match of today's Semi-Finals round is Uila Naga and Marnie!" The crowd roared and Marnie stopped by you. "Just because you can't Dynamax doesn't mean I will take it easy on you. This battle's victory belongs to me." Uila grins. "Don't underestimate me or the power of my pokemon. I can assure you that will be your last mistake." They shake hands before taking their places. The referee calls for them to send out their first pokemon, to which Marnie sends out Liepard. "Let's show our spirit Kandi!" Kandi landed gracefully, her snow warning ability immediately coming into play. "Begin!"

In Alola, Kukui announced that in preparation for the trip, they would be watching the Final's Matches in Galar. The screen flickered to life, and the voice of the announcer boomed through the speakers. "Welcome one and all to the Semi-Finals and Finals matches of this season's Gym Challenge! Our competitors pushed through 8 gyms, all leading up to the chance to battle our Undefeated Champion Leon! Will this year's bunch have what it takes? Who knows." The kids could hear the roaring of the stadium from the TV and wondered how they were going to get through that. "Now! Let's get onto the first match of the day!" The camera focused on two people entering the pitch, on with black hair and the other with a bright yellow. "The first match of the Semi-Finals is Uila Naga VS Marnie!" Hau nearly fell out of his seat, and his classmates looked at him concerned. Marnie sent out a Liepard, to which Uila sent out an Alolan Ninetails. Lillie's Vulpix cooed happily at the tv. Their eyes were glued to Hau's older sister, who was moving jut as gracefully as her pokemon, who took down Pokemon after Pokemon.

Marnie snarled as she returned to Morpeko. "I don't know how that pokemon got so strong, but I'm afraid this ends here." She grabbed a pokeball, enlarging it and chucking it behind her. The large Grimmsnarl made her return Kandi. She grabs a pokeball, feeling the strength in her Partners bond. "Let's finish this Lucario!" Lucario stood up slowly, eyes narrowing dangerously. Uila taps her Mega Stone, holding it up to the sky. Lucario holds his wrist up, revealing a Mega Stone attached to a bracelet. "A bond that is strong enough to break the ties of evolution. Lucario, it's time to Mega Evolve!" A green aura surrounded the two, before a bright light flashed through the stadium. When it was gone, Mega Lucario stood strongly. "You ready Lucario?" "Car!" She grinned, noting Lucario doing the same thing. "Meteor Mash Iron Tail!" The Aura Pokemon takes off faster than the eye could see, and the large target couldn't avoid the move, getting hit in the face by Meteor Mash followed by Iron Tail. Grimmsnarl fell to its knees but didn't faint. "Finish it with Meteor Mash!"

The Alolan's watched wide-eyed at her display of power, and as she smiled and shook Marnie's hand. Kukui claps, catching their attention. "Any questions about that match anyone?" "Was that Mega Evolution?" Kukui nods. "It's one of her pokemon she shares such a close bond with that he can mega evolve." "How is she so strong?" Kukui leaned against his desk. "She always was strong, wiping the floor with anyone in the Island Trials with sheer willpower alone. It's no surprise she was champion." "Did you defeat her professor?" He laughs. "Me? Defeat her? No, she gave up the title before moving to Kalos. Bad stuff happened to her here so she left." "You guys are pretty close huh?" Mallow asked, grinning Mischievously. "Yeah, best friend since we were little. She helped me get with my wife, and handled a lot of the Ultra Beast situations when they were bad a few years ago." Mallow paused. "So, is she seeing anyone?" She asked, to which Kukui nodded. "I think so, she hasn't come forward about it though."

The next battle had started, surprisingly between two twins. The male, Victor, won the match. Their interest peaked up again as a purple boy walked onto the pitch. He was introduced as the Champion's brother. The match was practically one-sided, with Hop's team annihilating his opponents. Then there was a match between two random trainers.

The next person who Uila would be facing was a random trainer. She fiddled with the hem of her uniform shirt. She sighed, standing up and preparing her team to smack down this next opponent, to which she did. Completely annihilating his flying/water team with her Ampharos.

Hau watched her matches with wide-eyes. She was so powerful, completely decimating an opponent in minutes. They were called for an intermission before the last few battles took place. Hau thought for a moment when he was little, and she would set him on Manectric's back as she went around the town. He ate his lunch, deep in thought, which surprised his classmates as they all knew him as the energetic Malasada-Loving boy. "Hau?" Lillie spoke up, catching his attention. "Yes?" "Are you alright?" He nods. "It's just weird to see your sister on TV when you haven't seen her for 6 years. Especially when she is so strong." Kiawe nodded. "Indeed, she seems like a formidable opponent."

When the intermission ended, it was her against Hop. She was more nervous for this one, as if she won she would potentially crush his dreams, and if she lost she would definitely be ridiculed. She sighed, taking a deep breath, walking onto the pitch. She stood across from Hop, who held out his hand. "Win or lose, let's remain on good terms, ey?" She nodded and grabbed his hand. "Let's." Her heart hurt, knowing that Hop and Hau are eerily similar. She took her stance across the field, eyes flaring to life with determination. "Trainers, send out your first pokemon!" Hop wastes no time. "Come on Dubwool!" "Ampharos let's go!" "Begin!"

"Ampharos, Low Sweep followed by thunder punch!" "Cotton Guard!" "Thunderbolt!" "Double Kick!" The moves meet in the middle, but dubwool was hit with 2 super effective attacks, causing it to faint. "Wow, you sure know your type advantages eh? Come on out Corviknight!" Uila thinks for a moment. "Thunder Punch followed by Thunderbolt!" "Dodge it!" "Use your speed to paralyse Corviknight with thunderbolt! Then hit it with a thunder punch!"  "Steel Wing! Let it get close then strike!" With both parties taking damage, Corviknight fainted. Uila took the chance to heal up Ampharos before letting her rest in her pokeball.

Hop sends out Pincurchin, and Uila decides on being safe with Garchomp. "Draco Meteor!" Hop pales. "Dodge it!" "Dragon Tail on the ground! Then continue with Draco Meteor!" The earth forms a dust cloud, and then a large boom is heard. The referee watches eagerly, ready to call it. Pincurchin managed to get a paralysis off on low HP. "Garchomp, you alright?" "Gar!" "Can you move?" Garchomp Gar!" "Alright then, finish it with Dragon Claw!" The referee called it and Hop knew he was losing badly. "Come on Snorlax!" "Return Garchomp, have a good break. Ampharos you're up! Start off with Low Sweep! Then thunderbolt!" "Use Heavy Slam!" Both attacks did significant damage. She realized that Ampharos was still tired and decided to swap her out. "Come on Lucario! Aura Sphere!" The attack hits the snorlax head on, and it faints. Hop grimaces, returning snorlax and sending out Cramorant. "Cramorant dive!" The arena filled with water as the pokemon dove underwater. "Feel for it Lucario, and when the time is right hit it with an Iron Tail."

He smacks the bird right out of the water, who had a struggling pikachu in its mouth. "Meteor Mash!" The attack hit's due to cramorant being dazed from the previous strike, and faints. Hop returned him, and the crowd grew wild knowing what was about to happen. "We may be down, but we aren't out! Come on Cinderace! It's time to Dynamax!" Uila withdrew Lucario and sent out Greninja due to the type advantage. The giant cinderace roared, and Uila slid the Waterium-Z into her Z-Ring. "Let's go Greninja!" She moved her arms like the waves, fueling Greninja's power into a single attack. "Hydro Vortex!" The attack lands, and Cinderace collapses to its knees, but is still awake. "Use G-Max wildfire!" Greninja grunts as it is hit with a powerful fire-type attack. "Finish it off quickly with Water Shuriken!" With that, Cinderace shrunk before it was returned. Uila returned Greninja and met Hop in the middle. "Good job Hop, you battled extremely well." He smiled. "Yeah, thanks. You take down my brother in my place yeah?" She smiles. "Sure thing Hop."

With that, she was onto the Finals.
