It was around five in the afternoon, and the sun was going down. I was at my desk doing homework I had over the weekend. Of course, I didn't actually do the work over the weekend like I was supposed to because screw that. It was a Thursday so this stuff was due a long time ago. My mom recently found out I was getting bad grades so she's making me do it all. I wish I could go over to Six's house right now, and probably hang out or something, and make each other laugh till we can't breathe. She's probably doing boring schoolwork right now too, or something like that. I was about a little more than halfway done with my second assignment when my phone went off on my desk. I got a text from Six:
I was slightly disturbed by the unexpected text since It was kinda scary, knowing her. I walked over to my window and looked outside. I saw Six standing outside waving at me from the yard over. "COME OUTSIDE!!" I heard her yell. I looked at my desk with my school work, then I grabbed my phone, closed my window and ran downstairs. This was a good day to go out, since my mom won't be home for a while. I don't care either way. I locked the door with the key I hid under a small plant I had on my porch and shoved it into my pocket along with my phone. I ran down the sidewalk past my house to meet up with Six. "Yo, guess what, I found out about this dope hangout spot over by the city, we should go just me and you, keep it a secret from the others." She said while going through her phone. Her voice was raspy and a little deeper than mine was. I knew she vaped a lot, I could smell it. She doesn't do it around me though. " That sounds cool, and you saved me from doing a bunch of schoolwork. I was having second thoughts about just doing it all today, but fuck it." I explained while walking down the street with her. " That's the spirit, but make sure you do it later, or I'll smack you." She's always been scary whenever she threatens to inflict harm. Even when we were little, she was always strong like she is. She had on her normal yellow raincoat. Even though it isn't raining, she always wears it. I never really noticed how short it was either. She wears black knee-high socks with high top converse. She's insecure about her ankles because of how tiny they are, she's always telling me she's insecure about this or that with herself. I don't understand girls, or insecurity. I guess I never really think about it, nor do I want to. The sounds of our shoes against the concrete of the sidewalk was nostalgic. "So, about this place, you found out about, how do you know other people don't go there, and how did you find out about it?" I asked her. "I found it myself, and I hope no one followed me or something, or maybe it was just empty when I went. Either way It's pretty hidden so don't stress out Mr. Introvert." I made a pissy face at her insult, even though she was right. I don't like talking to people that much, except my friends. I'm normally kept to myself if they aren't around. I just don't want to talk out of turn, like I always do.
This is a city near our houses. I know the whole thing by heart, I always come here when I sneak out. Either with my friends or alone. It's not that big so it's easy to remember where everything is. I even made friends with a few shopkeepers around the city, and some locals as well. I've practically grown up here. This place has a good way of reminding me that the world is bigger than my bedroom. "It's right past the alleyway by the second 7-eleven on the one-way street, you know the one you always go to?" She said while making motions with her hands. "That alleyway? Six, a bunch of shady people go down there." I said nervously. "I know, but past it, there's another alley, and a passage with a staircase that leads to it, and it has an amazing view, you'll see!" She half-whispered so no one would hear. I gulped at the thought of that alleyway. There have been multiple murders in this city, and most of them have been near there. We walked all the way down the street until we made it to the 7-eleven. She grabbed my wrist while putting a finger over her mouth that was a signal for me to be quiet. I held my breath as we walked down the alleyway. I saw bloodstains of past murders that gave me chills. There was no one hanging out in the alley thankfully. We made at least one right and one left, then there was a staircase on the side of a building that led all the way to the top. "Come on!" She said while running up the stairs. I quickly followed tripping a little on my way up. Once I made it up, I was out of breath, but quickly forgot about it after looking up. I was able to see the whole city from up here. The sun was setting, surrounded by an orange sky. There was a faint breeze up here. Six was standing near the edge, while the wind blew through her hair slightly. I sat down next to her dangling my feet. "It's pretty huh?" She asked sitting down with me. "Yeah. It is." She giggled a little at my monotone voice. "I knew you would like it. Must be better than that window of yours." She stated while reaching into her pocket, pulling out a box of pocky. She was right, this view is better than my window. I've always been used to seeing the sunset through my neighborhood. It's a whole new experience up here. "Hey seven, do you have any secrets? She asked out of nowhere. I was a little confused by her question. "What's with that all of a sudden?" She raised an eyebrow at me. "Just asking, you're always kept to yourself you know. It makes me curious about you sometimes, like now." She said while eating her pocky. Six, or my other friends know a lot about me. Now that I realize it. We're really close, but there are somethings I haven't told her, and I don't think I'll be able to. "I'm not hiding anything, and I don't need to." I lied. "Whatever you say. I'll never be able to figure you out."
A few hours passed and the sun was already down. We decided to eat at a small ramen place just right outside the alleyway. The city was lit up with lights of shops or restaurants. "Why do you always get the same thing whenever we come here." Six asked. "Why not? Le-Kei ramen is probably the best ramen there is." I explained. Le-Kei is a type of ramen mostly in Yokohama. She rolled her eyes with a small smirk. "Have you ever tried the other types here. What about different types, or yakisoba?" She asked. "I am sticking with this and that's final," I said while eating my food. She laughed a little. Out of nowhere Six's phone started ringing. She picked it up and answered. From time to time in her call she would say no or yes or she would say where she is. That's normally how calls go with her. Her dad's scary sometimes. I've never really talked to him before, and for some reason, six doesn't want me to. She's always telling me how she doesn't want me around her dad, but she never tells me why. She eventually hung up. "I gotta get home, my dad is furious." She said while rolling her eyes and getting up. "We should go back up there this week, does Saturday sound good?" She asked while handing me some money to pay for our food. "Yeah that's fine," I said. "Alright cool. Be safe getting home scardey pants." She said while walking out the door. I finished my food and paid a while after. I walked out and started to walk down the sidewalk. It was around 12 at night, so I had to get home. I was walking passed the alleyway, till I stopped slightly in my tracks. I wonder what it's like up there at night time. Without thinking I walked down the alleyway. I remembered the way to the staircase. There were dim lights throughout the passageway that flickered from time to time, and were surrounded by moths. As I walked, I made a sharp right where the stairs were. I stopped at the sight of someone sitting on one of the steps. I got really nervous all of a sudden. I didn't expect anyone to be here at this time, or at all. They were under a light that was built into the building. They wore a brown coat over their shoulders, and they had a bag on top of their head. Talk about shady. I wanted to back up and run away, but I couldn't. They stood up from the step they were sitting on. They walked down the steps towards me. At this point, I started to walk backward. This was a bad idea. Why did I come over here by myself? They put a hand up. I stopped walking. They were a little taller than I was. I was shaking a little. I wanted to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. They slowly took the bag off of their head. They had brown hair, a little similar to mine, and bangs that covered their eyes.
